SACRED HEART SUPER STARS WIN AFL CARNIVAL

Last Friday, the Sacred Heart Super Stars Football team went out to the hills for the ACC No Limits Integrated AFL Carnival where our skills were put on display for all to see. The morning started with a nice scenic drive with lots of singing and dancing to get pumped up for the day ahead. When we arrived at the field we met our competitors, Seton Catholic College and Lumen Christi College, for some warm up stretching and more dancing before getting into some drills including hand passing, steal the egg and dodgeball. Then it was time for game one!

Our first game was against Lumen. We played very well but lost by a couple of points. This made us dig deep to put in a stronger effort in the next game and time to talk tactics with Mr S (Sofoulis) and Miss Barnsley. Game two was against Seton and we definitely put on a show! We scored lots of goals, worked well as a team and knew we were fit for the Grand Final!

We watched game three against Lumen and Seton. Lumen again had a win, so we knew we would have a game on our hands against some fast runners and good goal kickers. It was then time for the Grand Final! Our game faces were on and we were ready for battle. The game was neck-and-neck the entire time, an absolute nail biter! It came down to the last few seconds and the ball was in our forward half... With time running out, we kicked it long and scored a behind. Not long after, the siren sounded and we jumped around and cheered! Sacred Heart Super Stars won the 2022 Grand Final by one point!

It was such a fun day full of excitement and happiness when carrying our winning shield with us for the long drive back to school! Thank you to Mr S, Miss Barnsley, Mr T (Torpy), our inclusion mentors Molly Conroy (Year 11 Barlow) and Jorja Elisseou (Year 12 Hannan) for coming with us and supporting us on the field, and to All Abilities Football for organising the day and arranging for former Port Adelaide and West Coast Eagles player Brendon Ah Chee to teach us new skills. We can’t wait to see if we can get a back-to-back shield in next year's competition.
