Principal's Message

(Heads, Hearts & Hands)

Liam Buckley

Dear Families,

WE made it!

It's nearly the holidays again and firstly please let me wish you all a safe and restful winter break. Congratulations to all the staff at St Joseph's for their continued energy and efforts.

Congratulations to students and families for a great term and we are looking forward to seeing you all again on Monday 11th July.

Please note that there will be a school closure day on Sept 9th (Friday) for Staff professional development. This extra day has been granted by MACS due to the disruption schools have had due to staff shortages with COVID.

Welcome to Joben K who has joined us in Year 3. Joben has moved form South Africa with his lovely family and has made a great start at St Joseph's.

First Holy Communion

Our Year 4 students will celebrate their First Holy Communion on Wednesday 20th July at 6pm.

Extra-curricular Clubs at St Joseph's

We are trying our best to extend the experience at St Joseph's with before, during and after school clubs. We will Operoo this information this week in preparation for next term. Running Club won't start for the first 2 weeks due to building works. Art Club starts Week 2 (Thursday 21st July).

Our Netball Lightning Premiership Mixed Team are the HOLT District champions and will be representing the HOLT District at the Beachside level early next term. Congrats to Mrs Phyland and Ms Sullivan and all the students for such an amazing effort!

Cross Country

Congratulations to Michael  for qualifying and running in the Southern Metro Region Cross Country Championship last week. Michael represented the Boys Under 10s across the whole of the HOLT and Beachside Districts. He ran really well and will be tough to catch next year.

Silent Disco and Cheese and Wine evening

Thank you to everyone that came along for a dance at the disco or a catch up with friends at the cheese and wine evening. It was such a great night and we will definitely be doing something very similar in Term 3. The children loved the disco and the parents were as excited to be back together at school for a social!

Thank you to the parents who help organise and set up (and clean up) after the event!

Cladding works

There will be work happening to replace the cladding at the school over the holidays and into the first 2 weeks of term. We will keep you updated towards the end of the holidays as to any impact it will have once the term begins.

SWIMMING PROGRAM

We have moved our swimming program forward to coincide with the cladding removal works here at school. Please check your Operoos with regards to details. Foundation to Year 4 swim as Year 5/6 have beach lifesaving days in Term 4. The children will swim at Tulip Street for the first 8 days of Term 3.

Student Reports and Parent Teacher meetings:

Thank you for attending 'Parent / Teacher' meetings. We hope you find the report and the meeting effective in discussing learning progress and any social emotional issues.

Homework Policy

The newly reviewed Home Work will be sent home at the start of Term 3. It should make our approach to learning at home much more consistent and transparent for parents. It will outline some of the evidence base around homework and also it will outline the minimal expectations from teachers each week. For example in our junior classes it will outline what day the readers are changed and come home, the words for spelling and writing etc. In the seniors there will be additional work to reinforce the learning in class.

School Readiness Session

(for kinder parents) 9-10am

Please let friends and family know that we will be running a 'School Readiness Session' here at school on Friday 29th July 2022.

We will continue to host Open Days in Term 3 - please encourage anyone you know to visit if they are looking for a great school next year.

They will be on Thursday mornings between 9am - 11am, personalised tours are available through the office any day of the week.
