Around The Primary

Dear Parents

The Primary school has again been a hive of activity all week as the students have taken part in a variety of learning activities, in and out of the classroom and the staff have been busy working on reports.

It has been wonderful to see so many runners and their parents arrive for the early morning cross-country training sessions, regardless of the weather conditions. All families are most welcome to join Mr Williams for a fitness run next Tuesday, 21 June at 7.30am. The meeting point will be outside the gym.

A big thank you to Miss Hubbard and Miss Eisenmann and the Year 6 leaders for preparing and presenting today's assembly item based on the theme of the Shark Tank. The students spoke with a high degree of confidence, and it was great to hear from our future entrepreneurs. Thanks to all the parents and grandparents who were able to attend and support the students. A special mention to all the students who received a certificate for their well-earned achievements.

Congratulations to all the students that are participating in the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation at their local parishes. This is a special time for families, and we would love to see some photos. We would also appreciate a copy of the Sacramental certificate.

Our Year 6 students are looking forward to the Winter Lightning Carnival next Thursday 23 June. They will be playing several games of netball, soccer, hockey, and AFL throughout the day. We are expecting 12 schools to join us for this competition. Everyone is welcome come along to cheer on our teams!

Some final thoughts to ponder - As we venture through daily life, each person carries with them an invisible bucket. When our bucket is full, we feel happy, confident, secure, calm and more content. On the other hand, if we are carrying an empty bucket, we are more likely to feel upset, dissatisfied, and unhappy. A ‘bucket filler’ is a person who behaves in a way that helps to top up another person’s bucket. In our classrooms and in the playground, we speak regularly to the students about respecting others and discuss ways we thoughtful, supportive, and helpful. We guide the students to understand how the impact of their choices may influence the way others may be feeling and we always encourage them to show kindness and compassion.

Here are some simple ways to encourage the children to become a ‘bucket filler’ -

Share a smile

Pay someone a compliment

Use good manners

Invite others to join in a game

Share a game or a toy

Say hello

Do something kind

Write a thank you note

Be a good listener

Do something fun with a new friend

As adults we know the importance of filling the buckets of those around us when they need it. Maybe spend some time over the weekend to discuss becoming a ‘bucket filling family’.

Kind regards

Primary Music

Primary Choirs

Students in Wanju Voices and Primary Singers have been keeping their voices warm during the cold mornings this term. Working on challenging harmonies, the students are improving their skills and learning new repertoire.

A reminder that rehearsals commence at 7:30am on Monday mornings for Wanju Voices and 8:00am on Thursday mornings for Primary Singers. As students prepare to perform in the Catholic Performing Arts Festival next term, it is essential that they attend all rehearsals unless they are unwell. Wanju Voices members can also find rehearsal tracks in their Seesaw music accounts.

Year 2 Music

Our Year 2 students have been studying instrument families. With a recent focus on string instruments, the students have had the opportunity to closely examine a violin, cello, and double bass. The students enjoyed comparing the sizes of the instruments and exploring the relationship of size to pitch.

With a special guest appearance by Mr Swarbrick (double bass tutor) , many interesting questions were discussed, including the creation of the curved, hollow, wooden body. The students were very excited to be given the opportunity to try holding and playing a double bass!
