How The World Works

YEAR THREE - TERM 3 , 2022

How The World Works

CENTRAL IDEA

Humans are driven to imagine, construct and invent

As an International Baccalaureate World School, authorised to teach the Primary Year’s Programme, we explore six transdisciplinary themes each year.

Our term 3 unit of inquiry explores various inventions and their effect on individuals, society and the environment. From prehistoric times to the 21st century, inventions have changed the world. Some inventions have marked a number of key turning points in human history, transforming society and our daily lives.

Action

It has been wonderful to observe the Action initiated independently by our students. During our last unit ‘Where we are in place and time’, students brought in books and aboriginal artefacts from home about Dreamtime stories and Aboriginal culture.

The students were extremely engaged when learning about National Sorry Day. Students wore (red, yellow and black) the colours of the Indigenous flag to celebrate NAIDOC week. Some students watched ‘The Rabbit Proof Fence’ at home to find out more about the stolen generation. The students gained a new perspective on the impact of settlement and we were very impressed with the way they respectfully approached this unit.

We celebrate our students’ ACTION every day in our classrooms. Please celebrate any action you see occurring in your home.
