Chinese Culture Day

On Tuesday the 26th of July, all students studying Chinese got to participate in Chinese Culture Day! We got provided a free box of yummy dumplings and spring rolls for lunch, vegetarian, or chicken, and participated in Chinese cultural activities. I got to do Chinese painting which was very fun (even if my painting was not the best!) and learnt a Chinese dance. Overall, we learnt some new things, celebrated Chinese culture, and had a really fun day!’

The day was fun and joyful. I really liked the dancing part. It was cool. And I loved the food!

Overall, I found the Chinese Cultural Day this year very fun. It was very interesting to learn about the different Chinese instruments and to have the opportunity to play them. All the instruments were interesting, but I was especially interested in the Kong Hou and the Gu Zheng, the way that you can manipulate the sounds by pressing on the strings was fascinating and the overall sound of the instruments was beautiful. I also enjoyed the dance; it was so graceful and beautiful. Initially I was hesitant to try but, in the end, it was a fun experience.

I really enjoyed watching the teachers perform and I really liked how we were included in each activity. I found it very entertaining and loved the free food we got after. I liked the Gu Zheng workshop and really enjoyed watching Steven perform the Chinese drums. Overall, I think Chinese Culture Day was very good at providing us with new knowledge about Chinese history and culture through its entertainment.

I enjoyed the day overall and really looked forward to the dumplings in the afternoon. I think it was nice and interesting that we got to experience three different workshops and how we were able to get involved rather than sitting and viewing each performance. It was nice to have people come in and thoroughly explain and demonstrate the history of Chinese folk dance and instruments.
