Work Experience with Laing O’Rourke

Over the school holidays, I had the opportunity to complete work experience with Laing O’ Rourke at the Union Mont Albert level crossing removal project office. The program involved shadowing people in different disciplines of construction (e.g. construction engineering, innovation, sustainability) and as well as several sessions focusing on tertiary study options and career pathways. I was also able to go on site walks and observe meetings. Overall, it was a great experience which taught me a lot about the diverse streams of work within the construction industry and gave me insight into what it is like being in a workplace environment.

A team of students (up to 10) will create a project on the theme that they will present to the judges. They will also build a Lego robot to complete different challenges. It is a lot of work but also a lot of fun. The competition starts on the 2nd of August.

Academy for enterprising girls

Do you have a great idea but not sure what to do with it? Then this is the event for you. The Techgirls organisation runs this full day workshop. It will focus on developing an idea through the process of design thinking. It is being held on Friday the 26th of August for the full day.

Superhack - Melbourne University Electrical Engineering Club Camp

To encourage a more gender diverse community of engineers, MUEEC will host a two-day hackathon for students in Years 10 and 11. Teams of up to 5 people can take part and we can send 3 teams. The event is held at Melbourne University and will be a great opportunity to meet other STEM-passionate people and explore Melbourne University.
