Breakfast Baskets continue to be popular for our students that miss out on breakfast. Our volunteer bakers use ingredients provided from the Department, together with ingredients from Coles to make some breakfast muffins. Our Health Ambassadors and their teacher mentors are managing the program with great enthusiasm and diligence. Goodies are available at 8.30am, as we try to support students who may not have had any breakfast. Here are two of our leaders Alby and Marley all set up and ready for this mornings students!
International Friendship Day (July 30th)
To celebrate International Friendship Day, Year 4 started a "Kindness Rock Garden".
We have researched the "Kindness Rocks Project" and have painted rocks and written messages and words that promote kindness, friendship and encouragement. The Year 4s have made the little area for the rocks near the blue carpet area and hope that other classes can start to add to the garden too!
Bella Therapy Dog
continues to win everyone’s hearts. She welcomes students at the gates, walks some of them to class and even goes into some classrooms to say hi to students as they start their day. For most of the day she is in the art room with Mrs Hamilton supporting students with their work. Some students come to visit Bella in the office at recess and lunch time to say hello or to help with their anxiety. She is such a great asset to our school. We are part of a learning community for therapy dogs in school settings and look forward to finding out how other schools use their therapy dogs also.
Smile Squad . Smile Squad (Dental service) will start examinations around August 8. If students require any work completed, the dentist will contact families well in advance to discuss. Thank you for your consent form.
Lunchtime Clubs After much anticipation we are pleased to be able to offer our lunch time clubs once again. We have a wide range of options for students during lunch play. This is the Term 3 schedule should you wish to encourage your child to come along:
Here are some students learning how to play the game of Chess....we could see those minds ticking! Our Lego club was well received too with lots of wonderful creations constructed.
Attendance
We are looking closely at data to see who may need extra support with their academic learning, their social/emotional state and improving their attendance. When there are concerns about students making academic progress, the first thing we ask parents to do is to get their child’s hearing and sight tested. This information determines the next steps that might be required for investigation. When students are having struggles with their social or emotional wellbeing, we refer them to a counsellor. We are fortunate enough to have one on site that bulk bills. When students are struggling with consistent attendance, we look at how we may best support them. This involves discussions with the family and child to identify their needs. Here is a helpful chart about attendance:
Incursion for Anti Bullying. Our THRIVE value for this term is based on RELATING WELL. This incorporates our Respectful relationships curriculum and also our anti bullying curriculum. To celebrate this, we have the Brainstorm presenters coming out to run a number of shows with our school on August 19. (More details to come)
