Myrniong - ELC to Yr 6

Staffing Announcement

Our talented and dedicated Director of Early Learning, Mrs. Frances O’Brien, will be finishing up at the Early Learning Centre (ELC) at the end of 2022.  Frances commenced at the College in 2007 and took up her leadership role of the ELC in 2016. Like my family, many in our Junior School learning community have been lucky enough to have Frances as an early childhood educator and a ‘significant other’ in the lives of all children who have journeyed through the ELC and onward to Junior and Senior School. We thank Frances for her passion for early years teaching and her huge commitment to the College over the 15-year period. We look forward to a wonderful farewell for Frances at the end of Term 4 nad wish her all the best for her next life adventure.

Cyber Safety

It was great to see so many Junior School parents at last week’s presentation by Susan McLean. Her strong messages around keeping our children safe in an increasingly complex cyber world are timely and important. The Junior School has recently signed up with eSmart Schools. This is a behaviour-change initiative in over 2,200 schools across Australia. The eSmart schools framework is designed to help schools improve cyber safety and reduce cyber bullying and bullying. They provide resources for schools and parents.

Games and apps are a big part of the digital world. eSmart recommends the following tips for parents:

  • Check their age ratings
  • Read parent reviews
  • Choose the highest privacy settings
  • Turn off in-app purchases
  • Find out how to report a concern
  • Make sure your children do not chat with strangers
  • Play age-appropriate games as a family. Talk about why they are fun and what to do if something upsets you while playing.
