How well do you

know our staff?

This week we learn a little about Teresa, Lisa and Nick

Teresa Laird

How long have you been teaching/working in schools?

For most of my working life I was a kindergarten teacher. I decided to have a break from this. During this break I was asked to fill in at St. Joseph’s, as a staff member was going on long service leave. That was 12 years ago and I have been here ever since. During those 12 years I have worked in the classroom, in the library and in admin.

Current roles and responsibilities?

I work part time (Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays) in the front office. So if you call, or come in to the school on one of these days, I’ll probably be the first person you see or talk to.

What do you love about working at St Joseph’s?

I love the fact that every day is different. I enjoy the daily interactions with students, parents and other staff members. I love feeling like I’m part of a community.

Interests/passions outside of school

I have two young grandsons, who I look after one day a week; I love the time I spend with them but they keep me on my toes.

I enjoy going for long walks with my dog, playing golf, catching up with friends and holidays.

Family

I have a husband, a grown up daughter and son, a son-in-law, two grandsons and a dog called Leo (who behaves himself most of the time but can have an independent streak).

How long have you been teaching/working in schools?

I have been teaching in schools for over 22 years! Wow, that sounds like a long time. During this period I have also taught in Kindergartens and both Government and Catholic schools.

Current roles and responsibilities?

This year I am one of the lucky Prep teachers at St Joseph's. I am also the Diversity Team Leader, part of the Student Wellbeing leaders Team and a part of the School Leadership Team.

What do you love about working at St Joseph’s?

I have been working at St Joseph's since 2015. Over this time I have witnessed and been a part of the changing landscape here and each year my commitment and love of St Joseph's grows. I absolutely love learning alongside all students and watching them achieve success. The same can be said for working alongside our staff. I love the dedication to improving teaching practices to improve student outcomes for all students. Our school community is also a major part of what I love about St Joseph's, so friendly and supportive. My biggest love about St Joseph's is the students. They keep me grounded and constantly make me reflect on the reason I became a teacher - I love their enthusiasm, curiosity, humour, and uniqueness.

Interests/passions outside of school

You will often see me at weekend sporting events supporting my children and their teams, walking along the beach, grabbing a coffee, or at the supermarket!

Apart from this, I enjoy Yoga, walking with our family dog Roxie, watching movies with a bowl of popcorn, being outside, and reading. I also love to learn new things and problem solve!

Family

We have 5 members in our family. My husband Julian, and three children, who once attended St Joseph's but are now at Padua College. Alex is 15 and Sam and Liana are 12 - yes they are twins! We also have Roxie, our family dog who is a Jack Russell, and two guinea pigs, Patch and Bailey.

Nick Krstic

How long have you been teaching/working in schools?

I completed my Bachelor of Education (P-12) in 2016 and spent the next several years teaching in and around the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne. I have been fortunate enough to teach in a wide range of Primary and Secondary Schools during my teaching career. I initially began my teaching journey at St. Joseph's in 2018 when I was asked to complete a couple of CRT days. I am now in my fifth year teaching at St. Joseph's and have loved working within a contemporary open learning environment and couldn't imagine teaching anywhere else.

Current roles and responsibilities?

I am currently working as a classroom teacher within the 5/6 learning space. I am also currently working within the NCCD team which is a passion of mine as well.

What do you love about working at St Joseph’s?

I love the community feel of working at St. Joseph's and being able to know each and every student. I enjoy working with students who are eager to learn and teachers who genuinely care for their students and their families.

Interests/passions outside of school

A large passion of mine is learning about Psychology. I am currently completing a Graduate Diploma in Psychological Science which I hope to finish by the start of 2023. I also love surfing around the Mornington Peninsula. Every now and then I even see some St. Joseph's families out in the water surfing. Lastly, I enjoy playing music and going to see live bands.

Family

My partner Dominique and my Hungarian Vizsla Lou Lou. We also have three chickens called Freckles, Sharlenne and Pickle.
