French Study Tour

What a great pleasure it is to finish my eleven years at the College with the 2017 Study Tour to France.

A privileged group of Year 10 and 11 French students will be participating in the French Study Tour  from 1-22 December. This will encompass two weeks at our sister school in Marseille at Lycee Prive Notre Dame de Sion. During these two weeks, the students will stay with host families, attend classes at their sister school and experience the French education system, including lessons in French. Marseille is rich in culture and history, so the group we will be delving into some of these delights.

Whilst in this beautiful part of the world, the group will take the opportunity to learn about the great artists of Provence with excursions to various cities, such as Arles with its Van Gough Trail and Roman Amphitheatre; Aix en Provence and Cezanne’s workshop; Nimes with the Maison Carree and Pont du Gard and Avignon to sing the famous song “Sur le Pont d’Avignon” and visit the Popes Palace.

The group will spend the last four days in Paris, in all its glory before Christmas. Here we will be visiting the Museums d’Orsay and L’Orangerie where we are going to see the Impressionist Paintings of the artists we learned about in Provence.  In addition, we will visit The Louvre, the Tuileries Gardens and L’Arc de Triomphe and La Tour Eiffel and the gothic Cathedral of Notre Dame as well as Sacre Coeur and Montmartre, and perhaps even a Mass in French or Latin.

Thank you very much to Ms Janine O’Grady and Ms Louise Hoy for all their assistance in coordinating this invaluable tour and for accompanying me and our lucky students:

Alice Archer, Hannah Barry, Bethany Brearley, Hannah Flavell, Richard Lukin, Eve MacGregor and Katie Newton
