Around The Primary

Dear Parents

We hope you enjoyed the family fun at the Super Summer Picnic! Special thanks to Ric Del Pizzo, Suesanne Sawyer, Doug Watson and Jeff Jansen and their respective teams for all their hard work behind the scenes.  A big thank you to the energetic and hardworking Secondary students for volunteering their time on the night.

Thank you for attending our Parent Information Meetings on Monday evening. Your presence and support of all the staff was greatly appreciated. Please continue to assist the teachers as it gives your child a greater sense of security knowing we are all working as a team. Information presented on the night can be found on SEQTA Engage under the tab for each respective year group.

Congratulations to our Year 6 Leaders for 2020

Our Year Six students were commissioned as Leaders at today's Assembly. All of the Year 6's will perform a variety of roles in the Primary school specialising within the fields of Service, Events, Community and Sport (this comprises of 12 House Captains).

Congratulations to all our leaders who are now proudly wearing their leadership badges and I’m sure they will use their leadership skills in many positive ways around our school.

At Kindy this week each child was given an olive tree sapling. We look forward to seeing the children (and their olive trees) grow and flourish throughout their Primary years. We would love to receive some photos of the trees planted this year (and in previous years) in their home gardens. Please email the photos to nancy.petsos@cewa.edu.au

Special thanks to all the parents who have:

  • visited the office to 'sign-out' their child/ren for appointments
  • informed us of their child's absence from school
  • enrolled their children in Sacramental programs at their home Parish. We look forward to supporting the children as they take the next step in their Sacramental journey
  • been wearing their badges around the Primary

Reading is Magical

As you are aware, this year we have the spotlight on READING and on the importance and joy of being able to read.

Here in Primary school we have the privilege of supporting your child in the early years to discover how letters carry meaning and when formed together in certain combinations, create sounds and words.

We read class books together and we hover over words of interest and pictures that capture our imagination … we hold a class in suspense, on the edge of their seats … we talk about characters and how they often point us to a new idea or a feeling … we laugh, we cry, we imagine… we create pictures in our heads…

Of course, as a parent, you are in the unique position to join all the above with an even more personal experience and cuddle time. There is nothing quite so special as relaxing on a couch with a beautiful book with your children

Our challenge as educators and parents is to make time every day to read a book and by example, give the wonderful gift of reading for pleasure to your children!

Happy reading!

Sports Update

Swimming

The Interhouse Swimming Carnival is coming up on Thursday 5 March at Bold Park Aquatic Centre from 12 noon to 2:45pm.  All students are to wear:

  • House t-shirts
  • House swimming caps
  • One-piece bathers for girls please – no two-piece bathers are permitted.

It would be great to see many parents and grand-parents come along, cheer the swimmers and support your child/children’s house by wearing the house colours!

Swimming training for Years 3 – 6 continues every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 3:30pm to  4:30pm in the College pool.  It has been great to see lots of swimmers making improvements to their strokes and endurance in preparation for the Carnival.

Open Day

There will be a range of sporting activities taking place in the College Gymnasium on Saturday 7 March for the College Open Day.  Students are welcome to come and play some sports in the gym to showcase Primary school sport.  Please email me if you are interested so I can estimate numbers attending steve.williams@cewa.edu.au

  • Year 2 & 3 students 9am to 10:30am
  • Year 4 & 5 students 10:30am to 12 noon

Students will be required to wear their sports uniform on the day.
