John XXIII College Rowing Club

PSA Rowing Success

It has been an awesome start to the PSA season for John XXIII College.  We have been very competitive across the board and have had some strong results from our Year 9’s in their first regattas and our Year 10’s continue to improve on their great season last year.  Last weekend was the first time John XXIII has had three senior crews win their races.

Our new boats, the ‘Rob Thomas’ and ‘Tenielle Bale’, had their debut on the water last weekend, with all crews decisively winning their races.  The boys enjoyed the opportunity to honour the boats namesakes with wins.

This Saturday, John XXIII College will be competing in the Trinity Regatta at Champion Lakes Regatta Centre, with racing to commence at 8:30am.  All are welcome to come and support our rowers as they take on the PSA schools in what is sure to be a great day of racing.

Boys Rowing Camp

The boys rowing camp was held from the 28-30 January.  There was almost full attendance by the boys with 46 out of 52 rowers sleeping in the gym and catching the bus to water sessions and team building activities.  We thank the rowing mums for preparing the wonderful meals throughout the camp, and we thank the boys for doing the dishes!

New Boat Christening

Our new boats – the Rob Thomas and the Tenielle Bale were christened on the 30 January at the close of the Boys Rowing camp.  Many of our rowers and their families witnessed this historic occasion when Father Rodrigo blessed our new Eight – the Rob Thomas, and our new Quad - the Tenielle Bale.  Principal Rob Henderson thanked both name recipients for their dedication and contribution to the John XXIII College Rowing program.  We were honoured to have Rob Thomas and Tenielle Bale and their very young families join the club for the Family Camp Dinner.
