From the Principal

Over the last twelve months, a group of parents, students and staff have worked together to explore alternative uniform options for the students. It was felt that the current uniform was out-dated and at times impractical and offered the students little choice. This was an extensive process that sought input from members of the College community. The range of options has been designed as sophisticated but practical and comfortable. The result of this consultation has been the establishment of a College ensemble that consists of a skirt, pants, shorts, shirts, blazer and jumper.

There will no longer be a specific summer or winter uniform, but students can choose the best option for them. For example, a student can choose to wear the skirt and shirt instead of the dress at any time during the year. Directions in regard to the requirements of the wearing of the new uniform will be communicated to parents shortly. The new uniform will be introduced at the beginning of 2019 for all new students. All other students will be required to be in the new uniform by the beginning of 2022. Please refer to the photos contained in this gallery.

Catholic Education Melbourne has introduced a new resource, Identity and Growth: A Perspective for Catholic Schools, developed to “guide and support school leaders in creating nurturing and inclusive environments for all students as they grow towards maturity”. The areas of sexuality, gender identity, human growth and relationships are the particular focus. Over the coming months, we will work with teachers to align our curriculum, policies and practices with the principles outlined in this resource. This resource will be invaluable in assisting us in developing relevant and appropriate pastoral care and wellbeing programs. We will, in 2019, provide parents with the opportunity to attend workshops that will allow them to explore the areas addressed in this resource.

The building works that commenced at the beginning of the year is progressing well.  The extension and refurbishment of the front office will be completed in a couple of weeks and will be operational at the beginning of term three. The extensive work that is being done to the Giovanni building is progressing well and the newly refurbished classrooms, break out areas and outside decks should be operational by term four. I thank students and staff for their patience and cooperation throughout the construction period.
