Wellbeing Report

The list of the happiest countries for 2019 has come out and Australia has been placed at number 11. Not a bad place to be considering the number of countries in the world! What is taken into account in the ranking of the countries is interesting reading. Generosity, social support, freedom and the perception of honesty in the governing classes are the measures used to calculate the placings.
We talk a lot about the factors that contribute to a high level of wellbeing in people, and generosity in actions and spirit is an important marker. Social support and a feeling of connection with our family and community is also very important as is the expectation that people will treat us kindly and support us in our time of need. Hope is a contributing factor (read freedom to be yourself) to feeling happy as well.
So with this in mind, we need to aim to be Finland, a country that has consistently been ranked in the top two happiest countries. Do things for others, support each other and be kind to each other. These are the values that we are trying to instill in our students for their benefit and for the benefit of society as a whole.
