Library Corner
The examination period is now over and Transition into 2020 is underway in earnest. We farewelled our Class of 2019 and wish them well in the next stage of their life journey. This is the perfect time for all students to tidy up bookshelves, lockers and school bags and return unwanted library books and other loans.
Activities in the Library are continuing with Book Club lunchtime meetings and class bookings. Congratulations to Lauren (7E) and Lynn (7E) who teamed up to win the Book Club Kahoot Quiz #2 and shared a scrumptious Cadbury Favourites prize. Other Book Club participants enjoyed chocolates and lollipops as they pondered their Kahoot answers.
The Christmas festive season also highlights the plight of families who are in need and the Library was a collection point for two College incentives. A large Giving Tree was set up by Year 9 students calling for donations of new and used toys/books/clothes for local disadvantaged children. The ELC provided a Food Drive box for donations of non-perishable food items.
This term we have been fortunate in the services of three Duke of Edinburgh Scheme students who each volunteer one hour a week to assist with library duties. Caitlin (9B), Yashasvi (9B) and Lucas (9A) have proven quick learners and perform their tasks in a very pleasant manner.
Lunchtimes in the Library continued to be busy and it was lovely to see so many groups of students engaged in playing Uno, cards and board games. Several new card games were ordered at the end of November and we hope that students enjoy these before the December holiday break. Five new sets of Uno cards were also included in a second order.
The Library has been a very popular community space before Team and we invite you to enjoy some recent snaps of students enjoying the Library spaces and collections. Our featured display for November was a selection of new books - several lovely art and design texts in addition to bestselling fiction, biography and YA titles. Check out these new reads and don’t forget the selection of ebooks and audiobooks available via the College’s Wheelers ePlatform and Ebsco eBook Collection.
