Junior School Highlights

Year 7 Highlights

Well this year has flown and so much has taken place. I cannot stress enough how proud we are of this Year 7 cohort and their ability to adapt to secondary school life. This year is only second to how big their Year 12 year will be, and believe me that time will be coming up quickly as well.

These students have made the transition into secondary school and now are in transition week, getting ready for being in Year 8. These two weeks will be full of Year 8 classes and activities such as the Smart Start Workshops, Melbourne Liveability Excursions, Peer Support Sessions, and their dance performances.

Last week the Music department had their band playing at lunchtime for students and staff. The majority of the band was made up of our ever so talented cohort displaying their amazing abilities.

Our moto this year was “Getting out of your comfort zone”, which so many students did and with the interest in the 2020 leadership positions, it is looking like this will continue. It has been great to Coordinate these students this year and we are looking forward to continue on with them next year.

On behalf of Daniel and myself, we would like to wish you a happy and safe break so we can see you all refreshed for the New Year.

Year 7 Liveability Field Trips

Year 7 students had 184 years of history condensed into two hours, learning about the Batman Treaty, the Gold Rush, and Marvelous Melbourne. The students had a guided walking tour of our wonderful city, learning what has made Melbourne so liveable for a long period of time.

A wonderful learning experience had by all.

Year 8 Highlights

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the Year 8 students on a successful 2019. We are proud that many students in the cohort have dedicated themselves to their studies, their social relationships and their personal growth throughout the year.

Thank you to all students who attended camp for their excellent behaviour. All students and teachers had a fun-filled and positive experience at Kangaroobie.

Here is a short reflection from Evelyn Krelle of 8D, “During the Year 8 camping trip to Kangaroobie I have enjoyed the activities such as survivor, game of life and death and the obstacle course. Although the weather hasn’t been the best we have been able to experience each activity to its fullest. I have also enjoyed the food and getting to know everyone in my cabin. This camp has allowed me and my peers to bond and get out in the bush away from our city lifestyle. The bush walks, although challenging, are beautiful, they allow us to experience being out in the bush and see the earth’s natural beauty.

We wish all the Year 8s safe and enjoyable holidays and all the best for Year 9 in 2020.

Year 8 Geography Field Trip

North-westerly, southerly, 30°C, 12°C, windy, sunny. Just some of the conditions our Yearr 8 students experienced on their Geography field trip to Mordialloc and Frankston.

The students completed their field report based on observations, measurements and questionnaires, on the use and management of coastal landscapes. Students learnt how natural forces particularly wind and wave action change coasts and how humans interact within coastal landscapes.

It was terrific to  see students put into practice what they had learnt in class and discuss possible changes that may occur in the future based on human and natural causes.

A most enjoyable and worthwhile experience enjoyed by all.

Year 9 Highlights

To all Year 9s, on the notice board by the main entrance there is a certificate and a thank you card from the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre for your amazing feat of raising $1630.55. Have a read when you can!

And last but not least, a big thank you to all Year 9s who have made 2019 a wonderful year to be a coordinator!! You are an amazing bunch of people and I wish you all the very best in 2020 and in all your academic pursuits.

Materials Project

It’s always pleasing to see students who want to step up and want to learn more. Evelyn Krelle, Hashim Farah, Theo Cavanagh and Bhrugu Patel asked if they could do more in Materials. So rather than give them small projects during lunchtime breaks I asked if they would prefer something a bit more challenging. As an extracurricular task they built a water carrying trailer to attach to a quad bike. It’s not a Furphy but they did a great job and along the way picked up some valuable extra skills. Skills that would normally be more suited to senior students. For them, the next years project is to build go kart.
