Year 8 Maths

Year 8 maths students participated in a practical activity that involved finding the value of shapes in four different equations. In teams of three or four they actively listened and questioned each other until they found a solution that worked! Students explained their thought processes to their classroom teacher who provided feedback and guidance when needed. This demonstrated another way of learning equations, algebra and substitution in a more enjoyable context!

Year 9 Maths

Year 9.1 and 9.2 Stage 5.3 Mathematics classes combined in the Marramarra to complete an AFL task for the topic of Financial Mathematics. Most students worked in pairs answering questions that were based on a payslip. Students were required to calculate missing values in the payslip which required navigating their way around the payslip as well as understanding concepts associated with earning money, such as, pay rates, loading, overtime, superannuation, gross and net pay. Students researched, questioned and discussed their thought processes with their teachers, Mrs Aventi & Mr Seers, who provided them with feedback and assistance towards finding correct solutions. The task enabled students to explore and investigate many of the concepts learned in class in real life context and demonstrated the importance of understanding the information provided on a payslip.
