     Loving God

You have given all peoples one common origin,

and your wiII is to gather them as one family in yourself.

Fill the hearts of all with the fire of your love

and the desire to ensure justice for all our sisters and brothers.

By sharing the good things you give us

may we secure justice and equality for every human being, an end to alldivision,

and a human society built on love and peace.

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,

Marian Celebrates International Harmony Day-Thursday 21 March 1pm.

Harmony Day coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Marian Catholic College will be holding a celebration next Thursday at 1pm in the Marcellin Hall to recognise how our differences make Australia a great place to live. Did you know that over the last 70 years more than seven and a half million migrants have made Australia their home. Nearly half of Australians were born overseas or have a parent who were and people from over 200 countries make up our Australian community. Over 300 languages are spoken in our homes. Apart from English the most common languages spoken in Australia are Mandarin, Arabic, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Italian, Greek, Tagalog/Filipino, Hindi, Samoan, Tongan, Spanish and Punjabi. Many of these languages and more can be heard around our school. We have 114 students out of 680 (17%) born overseas and 171 students who have a language background other than English. This makes for a special “mix” and that is why Harmony Day is celebrated so enthusiastically at Marian Catholic College.

Our community is invited to celebrate with us on March 21st. Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Our diversity helps makes Australia a great place to live. And Marian Catholic College a great place to belong to. Our celebration will include music, dance culture and food all over the world.  Each year the message of Harmony Day is ‘everyone belongs’ and it is a message that we aspire to put into practice every day at Marian..

There will be College Council AGM followed by an ordinary meeting on Monday 25 March at 6:30pm.

Please find attached College Council Vacancy Nomination Form, Please consider membership, nominate another parent or ask someone to nominate you for a two year term.

Peace and Best Wishes
