Accessing Oliver at Home.

Below is a guide to accessing Oliver at home.

Book Week and Book Fair.

In Week 5, the library hosted the annual book fair. This book fair happened to coincide with the Children’s Book Council Book Week. As a result, the library staff decided to make a bigger deal about the book fair than usual. This resulted in a number of ‘first time’ instances.

For the first time, the library took three days to celebrate Dinosaurs (the book fair theme) and we ran various activities for the students to get them interested and learning about Dinosaurs and celebrating both books and learning. As a result of this, Years 7 and 8 were also involved in both the book week activities and the book fair (another first). Although Years 7 and 8 have always been invited to peruse the book fair, they have previously not been involved in any activities. It was a pleasant surprise to find that not only did they enjoy the event, but they also chose to purchase some books as well.

This leads to our final ‘first’. Despite the drought that is raging throughout the state, our school community managed to spend a record $1900 at the book fair. As a regional area, this is an issue that does affect many in our community. This means that the library (and the school) receives just under $600 in credits. This will be used to purchase new resources for both the library and to help fund an exciting new project for the whole school.

The library staff gratefully thank all those that were involved, all those that attended the events and especially all those parents who supported the library. Especially those parents of K-2 students who went home with Dinosaur hat ‘costumes’. It was a delight to see so many students leaving the library with a book in their hands.

For all those parents who were concerned that they had missed the Book Parade. Don’t stress. As the Year 5/6 students are currently developing a play, it was decided to delay our Book Parade until Thursday of Week 10 (26 September). It is hoped that this will give them time to fine tune their performance making the parade a bigger and more enjoyable event for all involved. It has been decided that all middle school students will be invited to attend the Book Parade (including Years 7 and 8), but that this will be an ‘opt in’ scenario – students who do not want to dress up will go to normal classes.

Can I please take this moment to remind parents that they can download the ‘library link’ app onto any device. This app can then be linked through the student’s library account to enable them to easily borrow and read the ebooks available.

Thank you once again to all those who participated in the Book Fair events or supported those who did. We look forward to another one next year. Hopefully we will be able to make as much of a success as this year’s. We hope to see you at the Book Parade.
