Prep Enrolments 2018

Dear Families,

The first round of Prep enrolments for 2018 have concluded. Please be reminded that a $500 deposit is required (by specified date) to secure your child's place. We have seventeen siblings who will be joining Galilee in 2018. An extensive transition program has been planned with the children coming in for four visits combined with a parent information night. All of the details have been posted to the parents in the letter of offer. It has been a wonderful experience to meet the children and their families. While all children develop at a different rate, as parents we can assist our children to develop resilience and independence. Simple gestures can help with your child's development such as: carrying their own bag and encouraging them to speak for themselves.

Recognition of Others

Last week I wrote in the newsletter about resilience, independence and positivity. The staff have talked about the importance of being approachable and engaging in positive relationships with the students, staff and parents. One strategy is to recognise the efforts and achievements of others. The parents are also encouraged to do the same. Each week we have members of our community working hard for the benefit of others. I encourage all members of Galilee, including parents, to regularly recognise the achievements of the students, staff and other parents. Recognition, when given regularly and authentically by a community, will ususally impact positively upon a school's culture and lead to improved student learning.

Mothers Day

Thanks to all those involved in the Mother's Day events which was a great success and a great chance to acknowledge  our mums. The morning and afternoon teas were a huge hit with over 100 members of our Galilee community enjoying tea, scones and the beautiful singing by Prep students. The lunch was also a sell out and a great chance for the mums to catch up and get to know each other. Megan Hess (international fashion artist), mother of Will and Gwyn, shared with us her inspirational story. Megan spoke of her career and family life and we were all enthralled. Due to demand, we may need to increase the numbers for next year. Although there were many parents who assisted with the Mother's Day events and Art work, we presented a gift at assembly this week to acknowledge the outstanding work of Meegan Jia Good, Sally Callan and Jess Conway.

Parent Social Night - 19 May Emerald Hotel

There is a Parent Evening this Friday night from 7pm at the Emerald Hotel, South Melbourne.  Drinks and meals are at bar prices and Robbo (Amber Yr 1) will be providing music. This is a great way to meet other parents in a relaxed environment. You can stay as short or as long as you like.

Disco/Movie Night - 2 June

Entertainment for our little ones have not been forgotten with the Disco / Movie Night scheduled for Friday 2 June. Preps to Yr 2 will enjoy a pyjama party and movie in the School Hall with Yr 3 - 6 busting their moves across the road.  More details will be coming out shortly.

Trivia Night - 5 August

Planning is well underway for our major fundraising event - the Trivia Night.  Donation requests have started and we have been successful in securing a City of Port Philip Community Grant for the St Kilda Town Hall.

As you can imagine, organising this event takes a huge amount of cooperation and hard work and we'd love more assistance if you can spare the time.  If you have any skills or services or are just happy to lend a hand please contact Olivia Webb (0419 018 922 or robnlivwebb@gmail.com).
