And now a word from

Student Representative Council

The Student Representative Council (SRC) is an important working group at Parkdale Primary School.  Two students from each class from Grade 2-6 are voted by their classmates to take on this role.  They are elected following a speech that they present to the class in which they have to convince their peers that they have the qualities and adherence to school values that make them the best choice.

The students attend meetings with me during their lunch time 2-3 times per term.  We ensure the process is elevated and valued by ensuring there is an agenda and the minutes of the meeting are then reported back to the classes by the SRC reps.  Foundation and Grade 1 classes are allocated to the Grade 6 SRC reps who visit these classes after meetings to inform them of what happened at the meeting and what they need to know about upcoming events.

The 2023 SRC are a very conscientious group who are super keen to be an active presence throughout the year.  At our first meeting we discussed the following issues.

  • Selling icy poles from the school canteen on 2 or 3 lunchtimes per term – we had our first one of these days yesterday and it was a huge success with approximately $600 raised. The SRC students loved serving in the canteen and the other students enjoyed the process of taking their own money to the canteen to make their purchase.
  • Sports Equipment – the SRC students have completed a stocktake of the class sports equipment boxes and provided me with feedback as to what needs to be replaced.
  • Toilets – we discussed what ideas they had as a student group to encourage positive behaviour in the toilets in order to keep them clean and tidy

As an example of the initiative shown by the members of this group, Elsie K then convinced her mum to purchase a large chocolate Easter Bunny that she felt we could then raffle. This has been hugely popular with lots of tickets purchased.  The SRC will discuss what the money they raise throughout the year will be spent on.  They have already decided that they would like some donated to a children’s charity and the rest to be spent on a project in the school yard.  Watch this space! (And a big thank you to the Kroonenburg family for their donation of the bunny)

ADHD PARENT SEMINAR

I hope that those of you who attended the Parenting ADHD live webinar with Dr Justin Coulson last week found it of value.  If you would like to watch a Zoom Replay of this it will be available for another week using this link. I have also included (below) the Cheat Sheet from the seminar which provides an overview of what was presented.
