YR 12 Visual Communication Design
BUILDING PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: DESIGN INDUSTRY CONTEXTS INCURSION
On Friday 2nd March, Year 12 Viscom students spent their afternoon with graphic designer, Nicole Griffin. Nicole has been working as a designer for around 10 years and has just taken the leap in her career to work freelance for her business, Griffin Graphics.
Nicole came to speak to students about their upcoming AOS2 SAC for Design Industry Practices, and gave students an insight into what design looks like in the real world. She ran us through some of the design processes she had undertaken working for widely known Australian companies such as Linen House, Obus Clothing, Bonds and Adore Beauty.
This gave students the opportunity to ask Nicole about her journey in design, the nitty gritty of *actually* working as a designer, and how she navigated building a successful career in such a creative industry – which is not an easy thing to do!
The insights that Nicole gave to students was invaluable, and they had a really positive afternoon learning about how this subject looks in the real world, should they wish to pursue a pathway in design after school.
This incursion also gave students the opportunity to build their very first professional relationship in design, as Nicole will be continuing to work with 12 Viscom students throughout the year by coming in to assist with individual design processes and provide authentic and unbiased feedback about their AOS3 SATs.
Our students are extremely grateful for Nicole’s wisdom, and enthusiasm to be working with our students here at Epping Secondary College and can’t wait to see what contributions she can make to building students critical & creative thinking abilities in Visual Communication Design.
This has been really inspiring and Viscom students are SO ready to get the ball rolling in 2023.
