Creative & Performing ARTS News

The Creative and Performing Arts department has had a busy and exciting past few weeks at Epping Secondary College. There have been a range of opportunities running for our students to experience what the arts have to offer outside of the classroom! Our VCE students are currently building up their folios and journals of evidence in our Art Making & Exhibiting (AME), Visual Communication Design and Media subjects, and we have hit the ground running. Here are some of the things our students have been up to in the arts at ESC…

Art / Art Making & Exhibiting:

Students have been exploring themes and undertaking a wide range of research practices in their folios with their teacher, Ms Butera. As they enter this new subject, students are finding ways of developing their critical and creative thinking skills and are being introduced to a range of art making practices, and curatorial considerations.

We are looking forward to seeing what is to come of all of their folio development work.

Years 7 & 8 students are undertaking a new arts subject, Arts Practices with Ms. Pauchnik.

The subject is purely practical, so students get to spend a solid amount of time building upon their technical skills and explore a range of art making methods. Currently, Year 7 students are completing a Pop Art piece, and Year 8 students are completing a one-point perspective drawing of a city scape!

Media:

Media students are currently working hard on their folios – for both photography, and videography. Students have been studying photography techniques – including using their phones to take higher quality photographs! Media classes are also starting to look at code, conventions and genre and designing movie posters using Adobe Photoshop.

Drama:

The introduction of Year 7 Drama to our programs has meant that students have been able to explore their communication skills, emotional regulation and confidence the second high school has started. Ms. Hill has been helping students build their performance skills and the students have started with a bang!

Visual Communication Design:

The Viscom students have been hard at work – particularly in the senior years. Year 12 Viscom students are currently underway with their folios for the year. VCE Viscom students will soon be heading to the Melbourne Museum to see the Top Designs forum and folio works, where they will be able to see some of 2022’s highest scoring work.

Subject Selections:

Subject selections for Year 9 and 10 students are fast approaching. Students interested in the Arts subjects at all can contact Ms. Gallina via XUNO if they require any information about Visual Arts, Visual Communication Design, Media, Music, or Drama.

Open Night:

Open night is approaching quicker than we can keep up with. Subjects in the visual and performing arts will be displaying the talents of our students on the evening. We are in the process of encouraging students to stay back on the evening and continue their creative work, while answering questions from prospective students and parents to our school community.

More information on this to come soon.

Can't wait to see what creative endeavours our students get up to this year!
