Parliament House Visit
I wanted to take this opportunity to share the highlights of our participation in today’s IWD (International Women's Day) events at parliament house.
Today our students were able to celebrate women’s achievements, discuss raising awareness about discrimination and how to take action to drive gender parity.
These amazing young women, Mnar AL MASHALAWI, Mary LOAR, Leilani MASOE and Ira SAMSON, shared in this amazing experience. Read below at what Mary had to say.
The girls were given the opportunity to ask questions to the member of parliament of Mill Park, Lily D’ Ambrosio. During these discussions they were able to gain an insight into politics and learn that IWD is an important marker in gender equality awareness and change.
The girls were outstanding speakers. Leilani and Mary proudly shared their role as our school leaders and what they hope to achieve this year. Ira and Mnar also shared some of their struggles as young women but stated they were determined to push through the barriers to achieve their goals.
We should all be so proud of the girls. I can honestly say that I can see them making a difference in the future.
Finally, the girls had the opportunity to observe parliamentary question time, which undoubtedly, they found entertaining. This allowed Leilani in particular, to witness firsthand what she learnt in legal studies last year.

Last week on Wednesday 8th I, along with three young women were given the fortunate opportunity to represent our school and spend an afternoon at Parliament in celebration of International Women’s Day.
Here we were exposed to a plethora of politicians, government proceedings, history of parliament and more specifically the significant role women in the past, present, and future have played not only within politics but in existence alone.
In the time we spent there we were offered lunch and had an open discussion with the Mill Park MP Lily D'Ambrosio.
Here is where I had enjoyed the day most, being surrounded with not only likeminded, intelligent women but as well, seeing a driving experience that had pushed us and continues to push us to strive for excellence and success regardless of the gender disparity.
Overall, the experience will always be a cherished one, amongst us four young women.
