Year 1 Unit

The Year Ones have had a lovely time getting to know their buddies over the past few weeks. Last year the whole school buddy system was introduced.

Maths Practise

This week’s game is called ‘Salute’. We are going to introduce this game to the Year Ones shortly. In our Maths lessons we have been developing our whole/part/part knowledge (i.e numbers are made up of parts, e.g 7 can be made up of 3 and 4, 5 and 2, 6 and 1, 7 and 0, etc.) The goal is for students to be able to easily recall this information without having to count. It will assist them later on when they start to engage with the operations, specifically addition and subtraction. We would suggest taking out the picture cards so you’re just playing to 10. Aces can represent ‘one’.
