WPS Community Children’s Garden

Clean Up Australia

On Monday 6 March WPS Garden Club joined in the Clean Up Australia activities. We started with 20 children, as we headed off around the school grounds, complete with corn-starch rubbish bags and bright yellow gloves. With the excitement of a treasure hunt, many more kids joined our procession as we wound our way around the school.

We ended up with 2 big bags of rubbish. No prize for guessing the most common item – PLASTIC!  Particularly single-use, soft plastic confectionary and crisp bags.

Great job WPS Garden Club! 😊

You can help too…

To help reduce single-use soft plastics, you can do your bit at home. A cheaper and less environmentally contaminating alternative to purchasing ‘lunch box size’ packets, is to buy in bulk and decant confectionery/crisps into reusable small plastic containers or a compartment in a bento lunch box. This also enables you to make the portions big or small to suit your child’s size.
