Smart Expressions Exhibition

Last Thursday evening the College was well represented by old boys and exhibitors Charlie Zwart, Ja Nastys, Aram Zarigian and Leo Blane at the opening of Smart Expressions at Art Space on the Concourse. Smart Expressions is an exhibition of local high schools' HSC works with artworks exhibited at Art Space and also in the entrance to the library at Chatswood. Willoughby Mayor Tanya Taylor opened the exhibition and commended all the students on the quality and creativity of their artworks. It was notable that many of the students, including some of the Pius boys have chosen careers in art and design fields. Many thanks to their teacher Ms Donna Janes for leading them through their HSC course.

Please take the opportunity to visit the exhibition if you can. Details are in the link: https://www.willoughby.nsw.gov.au/Events/Smart-Expressions-2023

Our Premier’s Reading Challenge Champions

Lucas Durey, Giancarlo Vincenzo (pictured) and Freddie Allert (absent) were awarded the prestigious Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) Medal by Mr Ronchetti at Assembly this week. This is the highest PRC award and recognises their outstanding commitment to reading by completing the Challenge every year from Year 3 to Year 9 (2016-2022).

While many students begin the challenge, few complete it. In fact, this level of commitment is only attained by 1% of students state-wide. In addition, their achievement deserves special commendation given the disruption caused by COVID-19.

Congratulations to Lucas, Giancarlo and Freddie and to their parents and teachers for their support and encouragement over the years. My well wishes to our champion readers as they continue their reading journey in Year 10. The College’s Edmund Rice Reading Challenge provides an opportunity for Lucas, Giancarlo, Freddie, and all Year 10 students to extend their reading across a range of genres.
