YLEAD STUDENT LEADERS CONFERENCE 2023

CHARLOTTE ANGUS, FARIRAI MUYAMBO, THANH PHAM & AVA SARRE - SCHOOL CAPTAINS

Before the school year started, we were able to be a part of an eye-opening experience at Melbourne University called yLead. We would like to share with our school community two things that really stuck with us during the yLead experience. The first is the understanding that “99.6% of everyone's DNA is the same, so show the 0.4% difference that makes you unique”.

Imagine if every one of us was the same. The world would lack creativity and difference and therefore lead to a boring world. That 0.4% is what you can offer to promote diversity in the world whilst contributing to enhancing the environment around us.

Another important lesson we learnt is that our weaknesses are strengths we have not mastered yet. To understand this statement you need to be able to embrace your weaknesses and find ways to develop them into improving your personal growth.

Some steps to work on strengthening your weaknesses are:

  1. To identify what qualities or areas you are not skilled at
  2. To work on the identified qualities and use them in your everyday lives
  3. And repeat the process over again, and again, and again...

These steps can help improve your mental health by eliminating any self-doubt you may have. It helps to boost confidence, and self-esteem and paves the way for a more accepting and inclusive environment.

So, embrace that 0.4% difference and use it to nurture your individuality!
