YEAR 8 CAMP

MINKE VAN COLLER AND JAMES WILLIAMSON - YEAR 8 STUDENTS

On Tuesday morning, the 14th of March, we arrived at school ready to head to Portland. After a long six hour drive, we were all very excited to be at the beach. After dinner, we had a fun but competitive trivia night.

On Wednesday, we were up and awake ready for the day. Our first activity was the seal tours. We walked about 3km up the mountains to reach our destination. Not only were we lucky enough to see seals but also a pod of dolphins. After a breathtaking experience, we travelled back to the bus to prepare for our next activity: surfing.

With a lot of struggle, everyone managed to squeeze into a wetsuit and we headed out on the water. Waves seemed small from the shoreline but amongst them, these waters looked like looming giants ready to carry us to the shore. Eventually, everybody got up on a wave, with some having more success than others but still enjoying it.

After surfing, it was time to trade the waves for the sand dunes. We spent the afternoon sandboarding.

We were exhausted after our big day of board riding, so we settled in for a cozy movie night when we returned to camp.

On Thursday morning after breakfast, we went to the beach ready for some fun beach games. After a competitive run, we got on the bus to go caving. Crawling through the caves we were all amazed by the water crystals and it was definitely worth getting dirty.

We also went canoeing in Portland, which put our upper body strength and teamwork to the test as we learnt some new tips and tricks on how to paddle perfectly.

We ended the camp with a lovely beach walk, taking in the scenery of Cape Bridgewater one last time.

After an exciting day, the teachers realised we weren't ready for bed and organised a disco. We sang our hearts out and danced for what felt like all night long.

It was a great bonding experience and we would like to thank the school, all the teachers, and the bus drivers for all their input throughout the camp. It was amazing and we all are very thankful for the opportunity.
