Sacramental Program 2023

First Eucharist

On Wednesday evening, our First Eucharist students and their families gathered together for some time of reflection, prayer and sharing. As part of the evening, we made unleavened/flat bread as family groups - some of us got a little messier than others, but by all accounts it was tasty! The unleavened bread making helped us focus our thinking on the unleavened eucharistic bread that our students will partake in for the first time next Monday and Wednesday evenings.

A reminder for all our First Eucharist families that the Masses begin at 6.30pm in the OLSC Sports Centre. Please arrive no less than 15 minutes prior so that the First Eucharist students can prepare for Mass and the entrance procession.

For those students in the choir, please arrive with enough time to get changed into a choir top. Also, we kindly ask parents to be ready to pick their child from the choir by 7.30pm.  We look forward to the wonderful singing of the school choir!

Our entire school community is invited to attend our First Eucharist Masses, if you wish. It is a wonderful opportunity to express our connection to one another in faith and to celebrate this most important step in our students' sacramental journeys.

Prayer for those preparing for First Eucharist

Lord Jesus Christ, bless the children coming forward to receive Holy Communion for the first time.

May this day be the step toward a life-long love of the Eucharist.

Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they turn to you for comfort, guidance, and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship.

Thank you for their innocence and goodness.

May their hands, extended in anticipation of your body and blood, inspire all of us to cherish this sacred Sacrament.  Amen.

Confirmation

As we continue to journey towards the celebration of the Sacraments of Confirmation, I would like to share with you a wonderful resource that you can use to prepare together with your child/ren:

A note was sent home at the start of this term requiring some information for your child’s ‘Confirmation Card’, which will be used on the evening of the Sacrament and then kept in the parish office records. Firstly, each candidate must decide on a saint name that they will take in Confirmation. Normally candidates choose a saint of the same sex as themselves, although this is not a requirement. Ideally, each candidate will have researched and selected a saint that inspires them.

Secondly, they will need to decide on who their sponsor will be. Their sponsor should be a Confirmed Catholic themselves, over the age of 16. The sponsor should not be a parent of the candidate. A special way to highlight the connection between Baptism and Confirmation is to have one of the candidate’s Godparents as their sponsor, if possible.

If you have not received, or have misplaced, the ‘Confirmation Card’ note, please contact your child's learning group teacher or John to get another copy.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
