Holy Communion Parish Program

The First Holy Communion Program started yesterday Thursday 10th August and it was wonderful to see so many Year 3 students attending with their families. For more information about the Sacrament of Holy Communion please click on the following links from CathFamily.

Unleavened Bread

And why not act out the Last Supper with your family?  Here is a recipe for unleavened bread that you may like to try.

This is the type of bread that Jesus had at the Last Supper. The history behind this type of bread is that during the Passover, the Israelites did not have time to wait for their bread to rise as they had to escape from Egypt.

Family Mass

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the next Family Mass on Saturday 12th August at 5.30pm. The Year 3 students are looking forward to leading the readings and prayers. Each Year 3 child will also receive a specially made prayer card at the Mass. A poster of the children making their First Holy Communion will be also on display.

A big thank you to Marilee Mai for putting her hand up to lead the music with her family.

Thanks to the Year 6 Pope Francis Awards students for assisting with various jobs throughout the Mass. Volunteers from Year 2 - Year 6 are needed for the choir. It would be wonderful to have lots of children taking part in the singing. See you there!

Year 12 - De La Salle HSC Students

Thank you to the OLF families who have volunteered to write a prayer of support and encouragement for a Year 12 student at De La Salle College Cronulla. The prayer cards (see below what they look like) went out this week so please check your child’s bag. It is not too late to jump on board!

Please contact me asap if you would like to be involved.

A Student's HSC Prayer

Bless me with keen understanding and a retentive memory.

Give me the ability to grasp things correctly, and express myself clearly.

Send your Spirit and fill me with your wisdom and blessings.

Help me to look beyond this time of exams and see clearly whatever you are calling me to be in life.

Send your Spirit and fill me with your wisdom and blessings.

Amen

Father’s Day

It’s coming soon! Sunday 3rd September

“A and O” Tic Tac Toe Game

This new twist on an old favourite game will make a terrific handmade Father’s Day gift!

Instead of the traditional noughts and crosses, use the symbols for Alpha and Omega. These are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet and represent Christ’s dominion over all of creation. See the book of Revelation 22:13 where it says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end”.

Need a refresher on how to play? Two players take turns trying to get their pebbles into a row of three. Click on the link to download the template.

Fatima Friends

What a fabulous time we had at the K-2 Fun and Fitness Day organised by the De La Salle Caringbah students and sports teachers! At school, we got in the mood by reading a book called The Speedy Sloth then Fatima Friends went over to the oval and started off the races. We were the first to receive ribbons! Check out the photos!

On Friday 25th August Fatima Friends are invited to dress up for Book Week.

We will be included in the Parade in the morning at 9.30am. The theme for this year is Read Grow Inspire!

Pre-schoolers, toddlers and babies with their parents or carers are all welcome to Friday Fatima Friends at 9.10 am after Prayer Assembly.

Gingerbread House Kits

The Gingerbread House Making Night has been organised for parents and carers (adults only) on Wednesday 29th November from 6pm to 8pm  in Keller Hall. Please email me your interest in either attending an adults only night at the Hall or a take home kit as I have ordered 50 kits so it will be first in first served! Each kit costs $40 and includes the house kit, board, icing bag, ribbon, cellophane and a prayer card. An order form will be issued later this term but secure your early bird order with an email to me ASAP.

Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop

Every child and teacher received a beautiful prayer card last Tuesday in celebration of the Feast day of Australia’s first saint, Mary of the Cross MacKillop.

She was a :

Woman of vision with an unwavering spirit.

Pioneer educator of prisoners and the unwanted.

Extraordinary friend to all faiths and none.

Fearless advocate who lifted the vulnerable to greater things.

(Sr Sandra Hopkins rsj)

May she watch over us as we remember her legacy of a faith filled life.
