Book Week - in Week 6
Book Week Activities Planned for Week 6
Students will engage in a variety of exciting activities for Book Week this year. The theme is ‘read, grow, inspire’.
Friday 18 August - Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2
Students are invited to bring in their favourite hat or beanie to wear for the performance.
K-2 students will engage in a performance by Meerkat Productions. The performance is focused on the shortlisted CBCA book, ‘Frank’s Red Hat’ by Sean Avery. This is a story about never giving up on your talents, because even though what you do may not be appreciated right now, it may be in time. Students have created a mask during their Library sessions with Mrs Da Silva that they will also wear.
Wednesday 23 August - Great Book Swap
SWAP A BOOK…CHANGE A LIFE
On 23rd August, 2023 Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Primary School will be participating in the 2023 Great Book Swap, showing great commitment to social justice and helping to address the literacy gap in remote Australia.
Naplan reports indicate that although there has been some improvement in literacy rates in Indigenous students in urban areas of Australia, the figures for remote locations are appalling. Only 35% of Indigenous students in very remote areas are achieving at or above minimum standard in Reading in Year 5, compared to 95% of non-indigenous students in our major cities.
The Great Book Swap is a fantastic way to celebrate reading locally and raise much-needed funds. The idea is to swap a favourite book in exchange for another, for a gold coin donation. Students will have the opportunity on the 23rd of August to view the donated books and make a selection. All funds raised will go to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
Thank you for your support, we look forward to celebrating the National Great Book Swap with your child.
Friday 25 August-Book Week Parade and Book Fair
Parents and carers are invited to OLF’s annual Book Week celebration on Friday 25 August. Students are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book character. The day will start at 9:30am on the Top Playground. Students will parade class by class in their costumes.
This will be followed by the Book Fair in the Library and Open Classrooms. In the lead-up to book week, each grade is exploring a shortlisted text and creating a display in the library for your viewing on this day.
A picnic morning tea will follow. Parents and carers are welcome to bring a picnic rug and morning tea.
