Year 4 Curious Learning in Full Swing this Term! 📚

Exploring "Deep," Mastering Persuasive Speech, and Building Vocabulary with "Runt"

Greetings, dear parents and guardians of our Year 4 students! We are thrilled to share the exciting and enriching journey our young learners are undertaking this term. From diving into the depths of imagination with the Book Week preparation to mastering the art of persuasive speech for the upcoming Inter School competition, and expanding our vocabulary through the captivating text of "Runt" by Craig Silvey, our Year 4 cohort is embracing a plethora of curious learning opportunities.

Preparing for Book Week: Diving into the Depths of "Deep"

As Book Week approaches, our Year 4 students are fully immersed in the intriguing world of the book "Deep." This captivating story takes us on an extraordinary underwater adventure, where we encounter mesmerising sea creatures, unravel hidden mysteries, and explore the beauty and mysteries of the ocean depths. Our young learners are not only reading the book but also engaging in creative activities like crafting marine artworks, writing sea-inspired poetry, and even reimagining their own underwater tales. Book Week promises to be a celebration of imagination, curiosity, and the magic of storytelling. Students are also investigating the worlds of Space and Rainforests.

Mastering Persuasive Speech: A Journey towards Effective Communication

Preparing for the upcoming Inter School competition, our Year 4 students are honing their persuasive speech-writing skills. Persuasion is a powerful tool in effective communication, and our learners are delving into the art of crafting compelling arguments and presenting them with confidence and clarity. They are researching various topics close to their hearts, ranging from environmental conservation to the importance of outdoor play, and passionately developing their persuasive speeches. This experience not only builds their public speaking skills but also fosters critical thinking as they learn to present their ideas convincingly.

Expanding Vocabulary with "Runt" by Craig Silvey

"Runt" by Craig Silvey has become the cornerstone of our vocabulary-building journey this term. Through this captivating and emotionally resonant story, our Year 4 students are encountering rich language and intricate storytelling. By exploring the nuances of the text, discussing unfamiliar words, and engaging in interactive vocabulary exercises, our learners are not only expanding their lexicon but also enhancing their comprehension skills. "Runt" serves as a powerful platform for exploring empathy, understanding complex emotions, and nurturing a deep connection to literature.

The Year 4 cohort is undoubtedly making the most of this term's curious learning opportunities. From the enchanting depths of "Deep" to the persuasive power of speech and the linguistic riches of "Runt", our young learners are growing holistically and embracing the wonders of education with open hearts and eager minds. We can't wait to witness the culmination of their efforts during Book Week and the Inter School competition. Thank you for your ongoing support, and let's continue to nurture their love for learning together!

Book of The Week

This week’s recommended book is Scar Town by Tristan Bancks. This is the latest book from this exciting author. Year 5 are presently reading two of his books; Two Wolves & Detention. The book was gifted to me by one of my students who shares my passion for reading.

A taut and fraught fast-paced rollercoaster of hidden dangerous secrets, family betrayals, misplaced trust and the bonds of friendship that can sustain in the most terrible of circumstances. It’s a fabulous and thrilling journey and readers will eat it up, just as I did over just one night’s binge-read.

Highly recommended for readers from upper primary upwards.
