Snowsports Years 5 & 6

Our beginner group yesterday started their lesson all eager and ready to take on a new skill.   With Steph, Monique, and Joy's guidance, before their formal lesson started, they all went through the basics.  Learning how to click in and out of their skis, how to walk up the slope, how to place your skis to enable you to get up after falling.  During their Snowsports lesson with an instructor, it was noted how they all supported each other and had fun while doing it. Once they had mastered the snowplough stop, it was on to beginning learning how to turn.  The snow condition on Mousetrap was perfect and they are now set to move up a level and, pending snow conditions, explore a new beginner run.

Book Week Celebrations

Wednesday was our day to celebrate all things books, and it was amazing to see all the effort families put in to the students costumes. Well done and thank you parents and carers!

We started our morning off with our annual Book Week Parade to showcase each student in each class.  We even had a real snake as part of the parade this year!  As always, the staff kept their costume theme secret to be revealed on the day...... Cat In The Hat Comes Back.........

After reading the book Jigsaw, A Puzzle In The Post by Bob Graham, students were then tasked with completing some of their own, piecing together the clues from the scavenger hunt. The photos under the black fabric are looking at glow-in-the-dark puzzles.

Taking inspiration from the book Snap! by Anna Walker after reading this humorous, energetic, and playful tale of a frog’s adventure through the jungle and the unexpected creatures it meets along the way, students considered the way the text was creatively used on the page, like the movement of text mirroring the animals’ actions.  They then extended the storyline, to to create their own page of the book.

What kind of hat would you create for Frank? Using different textures, and materials student designed a Red Hat for Frank. All of the different designs are now on display in the windows of the Junior Years' building.
