Principal's Report

Student Dress Code Policy
Yesterday at our Senior Campus Assembly we reminded the students about our Student Dress Code Policy. The main points emphasised were that:
- stud earrings and sleepers worn in the ears, and watches, are the only acceptable jewellery.
- cosmetics may not be worn at school. Only clear nail polish is permitted.
- Shoulder length or longer hair is to be tied back to help restrict the spread of lice and for student safety.

War on Waste
As you know at Gardenvale PS, we endeavour to educate our students about the importance of our environment and sustainability practices. We thank all the parents and children that ensure we only bring litter free lunches to school. It does make a difference and it doesn’t go unnoticed! Tonight at 8.30pm on the ABC is the return of the War on Waste series. The show will also be available on iView https://iview.abc.net.au/show/war-on-waste
This program is valuable family viewing and reflects what we are trying to achieve at Gardenvale. The program includes everyday solutions to help all of us do our part in the war on waste.
School Review
As part of the improvement cycle, each Victorian government school undertakes a review every four years. This year Gardenvale PS is involved in the review process.
This is facilitated by a DET appointed Reviewer and our Senior Education Improvement Leader, Rachel George. Our Principal Class Team, two principals from other schools and our School Council President form the core panel to investigate the school’s performance over the past four years and plan for the next Strategic Plan. School staff, students and parents will also be invited to participate throughout this process in a variety of small group forums. We look forward to this process and planning for future school improvement.
Year 4 – 6 House Athletics Carnival
Our Year 4 to 6 students are currently training for our House Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 9th August at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve. Our PE teacher, Kirsten Travis, has been busy organising the big event. If you are able and would like to be a parent volunteer on the day, could you please email Kirsten. Women’s World Cup
Five of our students, from Year 3 - Frankie, Rosie Polly and Year 4 students, Zoe and Olivia, had a fantastic experience last Friday. The girls, along with a number of other young soccer players, escorted the Canadian and Nigerian Teams onto the AAMI stadium grounds for their World Cup match.
Have an enjoyable week,
Janine
