Robotics & Coding

By Nicole Pryde

Prep

During Term 3, students participating in Prep Robotics and Coding Innovation will explore the use of the Beebots and Dash robots. Students will learn how to manually code the Beebots with a focus on identifying directions and pathways and how they can fix any issues that may arise. With the Dash robots, students will learn how to connect and use coding blocks from the Blockly Junior app to make the Dash move. Plenty of hands-on learning is about to happen to help our youngest learners begin their coding journey!

Year 3 and 4

This Term, students of Year 3 and Year 4 will begin learning the foundations and skills of Scratch coding. They will participate in a series of tutorials that will expose them to the Scratch coding interface and work through a series of tasks that will upskill them with the tools they need to create interactive stories with movement, dialogue and personalised characters! Part of the process is learning about logging on, caring for the equipment and collaboration amongst peers as a way to set the students up for a successful beginning!

Year 5 and 6

Students in Year 5 and 6 Robotics and Coding Innovation will explore the use of the Lego Education Spike Prime Robotic kits. A series of robot builds will have the students understanding the interactive hub, different sized motors, colour sensors, distance sensors and even a gyro sensor! Collaboration and teamwork will be a key to success and students have already been enthusiastic when exploring the Spike Prime Lego kits and the possibilities of what they can create. Watch this space!
