Principals' Message

Hello Parents and friends,

We hope the surprise Winter weather of sunny days has helped keep everybody healthy and in good spirits.

The rich learning in the classroom has continued and we had the privilege to submit our school’s entries into the 2023 Maths Association of Victoria Maths Talent Quest (MTQ) this week. Our Prep – Grade 3 students all undertook class investigations while our Grade 5 students completed individual or small group projects.  The quality of the learning in these projects was truly outstanding and the students adored completing them.  They will now be entered into the MTQ for judging.  In 2022, TPPS was the highest achieving school in Victoria in the MTQ. This outstanding result included three State winners!  We were also awarded the ‘Most Outstanding School’ and ‘Most Outstanding Class’ awards in the inaugural FLIP Challenge (Financial Literacy in Practice). Our dedicated teachers have put so much work into these rich learning experiences and we can’t thank them enough for their dedication and work. Further information about our 2023 MTQ entries will be presented in future newsletters.

100 Days of School for Our Preps!

In what is possibly one of the most special and enjoyable days of the school year, our Prep students celebrated 100 Brighter Days at school today.  All Prep students and teachers dressed up the most colourful way they could to remind everyone that all preps have made a bright start to their schooling ‘career’ and celebrating the first 100 days is a special moment.   See Photos in Learning @ TPPS!

The Preps have undertaken a wide variety of fun lessons and activities all about the number 100 recently. They have had a great time and we are so proud of the way our Preps have settled into Templestowe Park Primary School. A huge congratulations to all of our prep students and teachers on 100 days of school.  In just another 2,500 days they will be celebrating completing Year 12.

We’re Off to See The Wizard!

The yellow brick road continues to be used by the Grade 5/6 students as they walk, sing and dance along it, making their way towards the George Wood Performing Arts Centre on August 23rd and 24th.   The show is rapidly coming together under the guidance of Jo Daly, Maddie Huber and the Grade 5/6 teachers, who have all been working hard to support the students who are without a doubt, talent filled.  We would love as many families as possible to attend the performance to help make it a memorable evening, not just for families of 5/6 students, but for all families within TPPS.  Please come along, tickets can be purchased using the link below.

As part of the build up towards the performances, students in Grades 1- 4 were given an opportunity to win a ‘cameo’ in the show by making a prop as part of a competition.  The staff and 5/6 students were simply amazed by the quality of the entries which made it very difficult for a winner from each year level to be selected.  Congratulations and thank you to all students who spent a lot of time creating such high-quality entries to enter the competition.  Thank you to the judges who deliberated long and hard before selecting the following winners:

Year 1- Susheel B 1M

Year 2 - Violet B 2I

Year 3 - Sophia C 3Y

Year 4 - Alex G 4A

Camp

The school ground will be a little quieter next week as our Grade 5 and 6 students head off to Sovereign Hill on separate camps.  We have been lucky enough to be successful in obtaining a spot in the highly sought after Costume School Program.  This means that each student will have the unique experience of being immersed in 1850s Gold Rush history by dressing up in period costume (supplied by Sovereign Hill) and attending one of the schools there.  Each school replicates how it would have operated back in the 1850s, so children will experience what school was like then.  There are rich and poor schools and TPPS students will be allocated to one of them, along with TPPS staff.  Evening activities include the AURA Sound and Light experience, as well as a Pantomime show.  Just before their own production, the students should find the experience of being a live audience to such a show, very beneficial. It should be a fabulous and enlightening experience for all and we wonder if the students return with a little bit more appreciation for the ‘time of plenty’ they are fortunate to live in! A big thank you to our Grade 5&6 teachers and the band of parent volunteers who are taking time away from their own families to make the camp experience possible.

Disco

Thank you to the PFA for arranging the school disco that operated successfully yesterday evening.  171 students in Prep to Grade 2 and 207 students in Grades 3 to 6 complete with glow sticks all carved up the dancefloor showing an impressive array of moves.  Special thanks to Kate Claringbould and Jess Abbott for organising the event, ably supported by many parents who also volunteered to give their time to ensure the event ran smoothly.

Principals’ Award

At our assembly today, we were extremely excited to present the Principals’ Award to Pippa C in Grade 4.  Pippa is such a kind, friendly, happy student who treats everyone around her with the highest degree of respect.  A very worthy winner.

At our assembly on July 21st, Aadvik P in Grade 1, was also a worthy winner of the Principals’ Award.  Throughout the year he has shown the five school values on all occasions and tries his best in everything he undertakes.

Congratulations again to Pippa and Aadvik!

Enjoy your weekend.
