Learning Power Award Recipients

Congratulations to students who have been recognised by staff for their demonstration of one or many of the 6 Learning Powers celebrated at SMDP.

On Monday during our whole school assembly, the following students were acknowledged and their learning described so we all know why they are worthy recipients of our awards and applause.

Prep L

Yvette

For being a motivated learner who has been taking on challenging writing tasks with a positive, ‘can do’ attitude! Yvette has been using resources from around the room to up level her writing and has been sharing her work with her peers with pride. Well done Yvette! 

Prep N

Dhruv

For being a motivated learner who has taken up our new challenge and is thinking about his engagement in learning.  Dhruv is thinking of ways to extend his learning such as recording the sounds he hears in words and practising his high frequency words at home. Great driving Dhruv!

Ashton

For being a motivated learner who is trying his best to stay on task and remain focused.  Ashton's now able to follow instructions and actively participates in whole class discussions. He is more attentive and involved in class activities and group work. Ashton's hard work, positive attitude and willingness to achieve learning goals is an asset to our class. You should be very proud of yourself! Well done Ashton!

Sebastian

Sebastian's passion for learning was seen this week in how he committed to maintaining his focus and engagement during shared learning discussions. He invested time and effort to interact with his peers and teacher to change his thinking, learn new things and get feedback on his learning. Sebastians growth as a motivated and focused learner is something he should be really proud of. Well done Sebastian!

For being a motivated learner, who was engaged throughout the science exploration and sharing his insights about the changes in the states of matter.Thank you for investing in our learning and sharing ideas and insights with others.

For being a reflective and collaborative learner.  You  consider others ideas, and communicate clearly what you think. During our science experiments you were invested in creating a lab report of a high standard with your partner that effectively communicated your thoughts, observations and results of the experiment. You clarified your understanding during our science lesson and questioned why things happened. Keep up the great thinking.

For being a reflective learner, who is always keen to listen to other people’s opinions, and is open to learning in many ways.  You take the time to consider different ways to do things, and to constantly improve.  This is evident in the way you approach tasks, such as explanation writing and solving open ended multiplication problems.  You are skilled at setting your own goals, and driving your own learning.  Please keep up your great work in this area!

Miesha

For being a collaborative learner who has been working with her peers to drive her learning! Miesha has been demonstrating what it means to be a kind and caring class mate by sharing her knowledge with others, giving her peers encouragement and inviting students who are playing alone to join her on the yard! You are a spectacular role model and should be so proud of the little leader that you are!

Claire

For her effort and resilience in writing and reading.  Claire is working consistently to master decoding skills in reading.  She is transferring these skills to writing where she is recording the sounds she hears in words and self correcting her pencil grip.  You should be proud of your new skills, Claire.

Yanet 

For being a motivated learner who is engaged throughout her learning tasks and is often heard asking and answering questions. Last week, she diligently noted down new topic specific language heard during explanation writing sessions.Yanet was able to set an amazing example for the class when she returned to her seat and immediately started her work right away. Keep it up Yanet!

For being a motivated learner who engaged with all learning tasks this week with enthusiasm. He showed determination to complete his learning tasks independently at first and sought teacher feedback to make any changes. This allowed him to create a detailed explanation piece on the lifecycle of a sunflower. Well done on your focused learning this week Samar.

Meron

For being a Resilient learner. Meron was able to bounce back when challenged  during a subtraction maths session. She learnt from her mistakes and kept going. Meron used the biggest number first and subtracted using decuples.

Tahan

For being a collaborative learner last week when working with another student to design and construct a marble run. She shared her opinions while taking on her peer’s suggestions. She was encouraging and supportive when the design needed to be tweaked so that it could work effectively.

Freya

For being a motivated learner who drove her learning in Literacy. Freya finished the Literacy Grid early and used her initiative to practise writing a narrative in second-person as we had been learning about different points of view in writing. Keep it up, Freya!

Alicia

For being a curious learner in inquiry learning. Alicia has been driving her own learning by asking interesting questions and searching for answers. Well done Alicia.

Chhazakhai

For being a resilient learner when challenged with new learning opportunities. You are always open to feedback to further your learning. This is evident in our maths lessons where you are up for a challenge and you use different strategies to solve the problems. It’s great to see your enthusiasm in class, Chhazakhai.

For being a motivated learner in Book Club this week. You made sure you were up to date with your reading for the week. You independently sought out feedback on your group role prior to meeting and shared your ideas and wonderings with your peers during our discussion. You have consistently shown this motivated attitude towards your learning this term and your hard work is paying off. Keep up this fantastic attitude towards learning!

For being a collaborative learner, who can effectively share her ideas and opinions while at the same time listening to other people’s.  You are respectful and patient, and very cooperative.  You are quick to offer to support  others in their learning. This was evident when you helped me learn how to play “What’s the remainder?” in Maths!  Please keep fully participating in our class activities - it is great to see you so invested in your learning!

Daksh

For being a resilient learner who has continually put effort into practising his ukulele. He has worked on his strumming and his picking and gave a fantastic performance doing all three in his Beatles’ song. Love your work Daksh! 

Jane (Japanese)

Niven

For being a reflective learner who always listens attentively in class. Niven has been concentrating hard and he confidently performs introductions in Japanese. I love how he always has a go. Great work Niven!

Vrish

For being a resilient learner who kept on trying to improve his badminton skills. Although it was challenging I was proud of you for not giving up and continually practising. Keep it up Vrish!
