Unlocking Learning Beyond the Walls

At St. Martin's, we believe that learning goes beyond the confines of the classroom. It is through immersive experiences like incursions and excursions that students truly connect with their surroundings and gain a deeper understanding of the world. These hands-on experiences provide a unique opportunity for students to engage with real-world scenarios, fostering critical thinking, empathy, and creativity.

The Power of Exploration: Excursions and Incursions

Our excursions take students out of the classroom and into environments where they can witness the concepts they've learned come to life. Whether it's a visit to a science museum, an historical site, or a local nature reserve, these excursions enrich their understanding and make learning meaningful and memorable.

Incursions, on the other hand, bring experts and professionals directly to our school, allowing students to delve into specialized topics and skills. From interactive workshops with artists, scientists, and authors, to demonstrations by community members, these experiences broaden horizons and ignite a passion for learning.

This week the Prep, Year 3/4 and Year 5/6  students were lucky enough to be part of these enriching incursions.

The Prep students engaged in the spectacular magic show and bubble experience by "Tim Credible" as a celebration of becoming 100 days smarter! Students were delighted by his tricks and each student had a chance to get inside a giant bubble!

The 3/4 students were immersed in a Billy Cart incursion where they investigated the properties of motion and learnt how these influence design and performance. Students explored the push and pull forces to learn about the influence of gravity and friction on how things move.

Tomorrow the Year 5/6 students will step into the shoes of scientists. The day will be filled with hands-on learning, where they'll explore the mysteries of chemical science through experiments and exploration.

St. Martin's is committed to providing a well-rounded education that nurtures the whole child. These experiences leave a lasting impact on our students, shaping their character, values, and skills as they progress through their education journey. We encourage you to stay engaged with your child's educational journey by discussing their experiences, asking about their favorite activities.

100 Days of Prep

Reaching a century is a big deal whether it be in cricket, age or days at school.

It warrants a celebration and that’s exactly what happened last week when Lauren, Nell, Nina, Ally and their prep students had a day celebrating everything to do with 100.

They explored the number 100; stacked 100 items, sequenced numbers to 100 and constructed necklaces with 100 pieces. They made crowns and wore them to a 'magic show'  and of course, came to school dressed as 100 year olds.

This is the best day of my life” was a student's comment before they all went home for a very long “nanna nap”.

Such days are a very real example of the growth and development of learners who only 100 days ago arrived at school as beginners, kinder kids and our newest SMDP learners.

Congratulations to our Prep teachers and students on all your learning over the past 100 days.

Imagine their achievements when they reach their 100 days of learning milestone!
