AFL Colours Day

On Wednesday 18th September, the Year 6 Sports Captains have organised a Footy Colours Day. On this day children will have the chance to wear their team’s AFL colours. If you don’t support an AFL team then you are more than welcome to wear your choice of team colours with your sports uniform. This day will be full of AFL activities for you and your class to enjoy. We ask that you please bring a gold coin donation to help make this day possible. You will also have the chance to vote on the footy team you think will win the grand final and one person from each year level who guesses the winner will get a bag of lollies.

PNG Sleepout

In line with the PNG fundraiser when students wear the PNG colours (red, black and yellow) and bring a gold coin donation (see Faith & Wellbeing page), this term we will be holding the annual PNG sleepout for the 5s & 6s. It will be held on Friday 13th of September.   Drop off is at 7:30pm, and pick up is at 7:30am. We need a minimum of 20 students for the event to go ahead.   All  money raised will go to the people in Aitape, PNG.

A CareMonkey notice will be sent out early next week and we will confirm if we have the numbers to go ahead.

Foundation Celebrates Daffodil Day

On Friday 23rd August, Foundation celebrated Daffodil day. Children created bunches of daffodils and talked about cancer.

The daffodil is recognised internationally as the symbol of hope for all people affected by cancer. The Cancer Council chose it as our emblem as it heralds the return of spring, pushing its way through the frozen earth after a long winter, representing new life, vitality and growth.

To the Cancer Council, and those affected by cancer, the daffodil represents hope for a cancer-free future.

Foundation remembered people who had died of cancer, people fighting cancer or those surviving cancer. We remembered family and friends of the St James community and prayed for a cure.

Daffodil day is a time of hope; where we come together to show our support for the 145,000 Australians diagnosed with cancer each year.

Foundation Students Become Meteorologists

On Friday, the beautiful Miss Slater organised for all junior classes a science incursion. Dylan, from ‘Mad About Science’ led our class through different experiments to explain weather conditions we experience during the year in our ‘Wicked Weather’ class.

Foundation was broken into groups of three with each child given a variety of responsibilities. Children worked with beakers, pipettes, glass dishes, crucibles and torches to create rain and snow. Children had a wonderful time working together, asking interesting questions and developing a love of science in our world.

Thank you Miss Slater  Foundation loved being Meteorologists for the morning.

Foundation Celebrates Book Week

What a great day Foundation had yesterday, celebrating their first Book Week parade at St James.

Children (and parents) were so excited to see and show their amazing costumes. So much time and effort went into the children's costumes and the Foundation children all looked so good. Well done!

Later in the day, children were entertained by 'Perform Education'.

Todd and Alessandra presented to the children some of the nominated picture books in a performance called 'Big Dreams'.

The story was about not letting bad thoughts stop us from having  new experiences and we need to tell ourselves to 'Be Brave, Be Strong'

Thank you Miss Quinlan and Mrs Nicola  for organising such a wonderful day! Foundation loved it!

Year 1 Chalk Kids!

In Year 1 we have been reading many of the Shortlisted books for Book Week. One of our favourites so far has been Chalk Boy by Margaret Wild, so we decided to become Chalk Kids! We brainstormed many different designs and were very proud of our creations. We even took funny photos to make our drawings look 3D!

Wicked Weather Incursion

On Friday the Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 students participated in a Wicked Weather Incursion. They learnt how snow, rain and hail formed, as well as understanding how the Sun’s UV rays can hurt us. They had so much fun growing snow in their hands, simulating a tornado and creating a UV detector which they got to keep. These hands on activities reinforced our learning in our Connected Learning unit and we are looking forward to using our new knowledge to make more discoveries.
