Ash Wednesday

This week we paused to observe Ash Wednesday together as a faith community. Ash Wednesday derives its name from the practice of blessing ashes made from palm branches blessed on the previous year’s Palm Sunday and placing them on the heads of participants. These ashes remind Catholics that they are a part of God’s creation. Ash Wednesday also begins the Lenten season. During this time we are called to pray, fast and give generously to others in preparation for the celebration of Jesus’ life and resurrection at Easter.

At the College we support the work of Caritas Australia and their Project Compassion Appeal. During Lent, staff and students are asked to support Project Compassion, an organisation who works to ensure that all people have the opportunity improve their lives through learning new skills, teaching others and seeing your love in the actions of those who help them. Students can make donations in their Homegroup, at the College Office, Library or Canteen.
