From the Visual Arts Department

Exciting experiments with colour in the Year 7 paintings last term. Students learned to mix colours and explore different colour relationships. The idea of paintings which replicate the world versus abstraction was a topic of discussion as was how some become investment items.   Works from all years will be on show in Week 7 with the Twilight Concert.

Australian National Chemistry Quiz 2019

Twenty seven Year 11 students competed in the rigorous 2019 RACI Australian National Chemistry Quiz (ANCQ), in July. This quiz aims to promote interest in chemistry and the role of chemists in our society. The ANCQ is not a test of syllabus content, but instead relies on students applying their knowledge and understanding to stimulus material provided in the questions. Overall, our students received three Distinction (top 10-25% of students in NSW) and four Credit (top 25-40% of students in NSW) certificates. Distinction certificates were awarded to Keegan Aikin, Jonathan Dellagiacoma and John McDonald. Credit certificates were awarded to Cameron Fernandopulle, Joel Ghannoum, Jude Boyle and Matthew Bradley. Congratulations to these boys.

Barron wins Edmund Rice Readers’ Challenge 2019

Barron’s success in the Year 10 reading challenge confirms the old school adage that ‘Barron Bears Read’.  Barron House Captain, Kiefer O’Brien commended his bears on their reading win urging them to continue this success in coming Athletics and Swimming carnivals. Further, Kiefer commended the education offered at Pius in developing the whole person through academic and sporting opportunities.

Pictured above are the Year 10 Champion House readers, Cameron Smith, Evan Barton, Harry Hamill and Callum Fitzgibbon, with House Captains Sam Barrell, Duncan Dingley, Kiefer O’Brien and Will Chen.
