"You can find me where music meets the Ocean" - Drumming Circle at the Year 9 Camp

DRAMA MATTERS

Our new Intermediate Drama Ensemble (Years 7 & 8) are working hard on their scenes ready to present in Week 3 as part of the Performing Arts Festival. Each pair of actors has been given a ‘neutral scene’ and from this they have created their own context. The scenes can be performed in many different ways and the characters are deliberately ambiguous which means the actor can bring a lot of their own personality to their role. We hope you will join us on Friday 1 November in the Sarto Centre from 5.30pm.

Billy Elliott at the Lyric Theatre:  I am really looking forward to seeing the new Billy Elliott musical that comes to Sydney next month. It promises to be a wonderful production. The film of the play is very powerful and I know many people who have also read the novel. There are still tickets available to what will no doubt be a fantastic night out for all of the family.

MUSIC MATTERS

Where the Music Meets the Ocean

Year 9 Drumming Circles at Wamberal Beach

Our Year 9 students have been privileged to attend camp this term at Workul Koo, Wamberal Beach. In addition to the rigours of surfing, paddle boarding and bush walking, our young men have participated in drumming circles.  It is great to see a room full of happy boys being lead through guided drumming class. Playing rhythms in call and response, improvising their own musical phrases and ‘talking’ to one another through their djembes. Drumming is good for everyone and many community and music organisations offer drum circle classes. Playing drums has many neurological and therapeutic benefits. Our College has two wonderful drum teachers in Ian Talati and Pawel Lewandowski. Please don’t hesitate to talk to us about getting your son busy playing.

How Sharp Are My Ears?

Year 12 Music Examinations Reach their Final Cadence

Congratulations to our Music 2 Students who completed the written component of their Higher School Certificates last Friday.  This paper requires students to complete a melodic dictation, analyse a range of listening and score excerpts and an extended musicology essay. Our students worked hard to memorise musical excerpts and understand the concepts of music within a range of styles. Well done boys. We wish all of Year 12 the very best for their remaining weeks of examinations.

We cordially invite parents and friends of the College to join our Performing Arts Parents’ Association in 2020.  We have various positions to fill. Being in this wonderful group involves just one meeting per term. The only prerequisite for membership is the desire to help our students flourish.  Our next PAPA meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 30 at 7pm in the College Band Room. All welcome, supper provided.

College Auditions

A Successful Opportunity to Share Learning

Our sincere thanks to Mr. Primrose-Heaney, Mr David Sismey, Mr Jonathan Dollin, Mr Power and Mrs Talati for facilitating the recent auditions for our Ensemble Program.

These auditions were a wonderful opportunity for boys to be heard individually and to have conversations with our Ensemble Directors about their aspirations for 2020.  All our audition results have been posted on lists outside the Performing Arts Office. Please see Mr Primrose-Heaney if you have any queries. Well done to all involved and thank you Mr Primrose-Heaney and Mrs McHugh for organising these so well.
