Basketball

The ISA code of Conduct sets out guidelines regarding the behaviour of players, coaches and spectators. The summarised version of the code is that all involved behave appropriately and keep in mind that this is schoolboy sport. Regardless of the referee’s decisions whether they are right or wrong, they are accepted and the game continues un-interrupted. Players are to be encouraged to play well and distracting players is not acceptable.

Parents must help do the score bench at Home games on Saturdays. If you can help, please let the coach know or just take a seat at the Bench. Our referees are always happy to teach parents what to do just prior to the game.

Round 1 of the ISA season is this Saturday 26 October. Please check the attachment below for game times and venues. All new players who have not purchased a uniform for this Saturday’s game must see Mr Gibson at this Friday morning's Basketball meeting.

Indigenous Reconciliation and Pink Day @ Oxford Falls. The 1st XI secured two convincing wins at Oxford Falls in their T20 matches against Oakhill on Indigenous Reconciliation and Pink Day @ Oxford Falls. In the morning’s match, Adam Greenwood, Joe Colgan and Stuart Dingley all played aggressively as only two wickets were lost while 170 was compiled. All bowlers then contributed in restricting the opposition batsmen with spinners, Liam Kinna, Logan Nicey and Liam Chang the most successful.

When Oakhill batted first in the afternoon match, SPX again bowled straight and ended up having nine dismissals which hit the stumps and two leg before wickets over the course of the two games. Josh Hooper, Charlie Sharp, James Power, Logan Nicey and Duncan Dingley were all among the wickets. Sharp, Tyson McCallum and Laurence Sheehan knocked off the target with the bat.

The team now looks forward to ISA Round 1 competition against Blue Mountains Grammar School.

T20 #1 – 1st XI 2-170 (Joe Colgan 60 not out, Stuart Dingley 42 not out, Adam Greenwood 38) defeated Oakhill 10-43 (Logan Nicey 3-5, Liam Kinna 3-6, Liam Chang 2-13)

T20 #2 – Oakhill 9-54 (Charlie Sharp 2-6, Josh Hooper 2-9) lost to St Pius 1-55 (Charlie Sharp 30 not out).

Protective Equipment.  For safety and hygiene ALL players are to have their own personal groin protector and their own personal helmet. Wearing of helmets and groin protectors are compulsory for all players batting in nets or a game or wicket-keeping up at the stumps. NSTA Tennis

What a great start to the season, the weather was perfect and there were some amazing shots and great sportsmanship all round. All 8 courts were ready and raring to go at 8am, with Pius winning 7 of the 8 games! It was great to see some new players to SPX tennis enjoying themselves and so many friendly matches being played. Great rallies were seen on court 4 between Luka Zaknic and Adam Fitrzyk and on court 3 between Ben Bromby and John Badger-Rahme. Thank you to Joseph, Nathan, Zac and Anton who helped with the umpiring in this session, your assistance was much appreciated.

The 10am games seemed quite chilled, everyone was enjoying the games and some great results were seen. In division 2, Nathan and Anton backed up from umpiring in the morning to blitz their singles games to gain the overall win. Our last game to finish was a close one between SPX 7 and Reddam, it was great to see Pius come out with the win.

UMPIRES & MENTORS FOR ROUND 2: Cameron Fernandopulle, Nick Arena, Max Leo and Jayden Chan.

Rugby

Under 15s New Zealand Tour 2020:  At the annual presentation evening all players from the Under 14s age group received an invitation to the 2020 New Zealand Tour.  The tour will occur during the second week of the April school holidays, departing Sydney on Friday 17 April and returning on Friday 24 April in time to enjoy the ANZAC Day weekend before returning to school.

The tour is open to any boy who currently plays rugby or is interested in playing rugby in the future. It is not graded and there is no selection process, we just need a minimum number of 20 boys for the tour to go ahead. Students must be eligible for the Under 15s in 2020, that is they turn 15 next year. Given the numbers in the Under 14s age group, we are hopeful of taking two teams in 2020.

I ask parents to consider this fantastic opportunity for their sons, with more information available in the invitation below.  You can register your interest via:  https://www.trybooking.com/553046

  • Benefit Dinner for Liam Knight and Greg Wade

As you are aware the Benefit evening is getting closer and will be held next Friday 1 November at North Sydney leagues Club. There are just a few places left so please join us for a great evening in support of our own in need.

"It is in giving that you receive."

If you can't join us please consider making a donation to support on-going rehabilitation costs for these two wonderful SPX ex-students affected by serious brain injuries.

You can book a ticket, make a monetary donation or purchase a raffle ticket for a piece of Canturi Jewellery worth $2,400 via the following link:  https://www.trybooking.com/538481

The necklace (pictured below) is a three dimensional letter design, and made from 18ct White Gold and Diamonds. The winner will be awarded a gift certificate on the night, which can be exchanged at their own convenience at the Sydney Canturi Salon for a necklace in the letter of their choice.
