At TPS we are learning more about what research says about how children learn to read. This body of work is often referred to as the ‘Science of Reading.’ Researcher, Hollis Scarborough, presents the many ‘strands’ that contribute to skilled reading in her Reading Rope graphic. As a parent or carer you can support the development of the language comprehension section through experiences such as visits to landmarks, museums and libraries to assist with building background knowledge about various topics. At TPS our teachers build knowledge through reading aloud shared texts as part of the reading program. Teachers pre-teach vocabulary to further support comprehension of what is being read.
Respectful Relationships
Token System
We are excited to announce our new whole school reward system to support our School Wide Positive Behaviour matrix. Our focus for this Term will be Respect.
Throughout the week when any staff member sees a student showing a respectful behaviour, that staff member can reward students with a coloured token. This coloured token matches the house that the student belongs to. These tokens are then taken to the foyer to dispense into the larger house jars.
The winning house will be revealed on Fridays in assembly. The following Friday the students in that colour house will be rewarded with a special activity for 15 minutes.
Congratulations to Kingsford for winning J
The new weeks focus will be up in the foyer.
