Japanese

Year 8 Japanese have had an awesome start to the year. The introduction of the Hiragana Karate Belt System to encourage students to learn the script has been highly successful with a fierce competition occurring between students. Students have also done some calligraphy, learning to write their names and the kanji for Japan in ink.

Year 9 Japanese are working hard and honing their language skills.  This term we are using our language skills to research and write about famous high ranking Sumo wrestlers.  Students have extended their knowledge of basic sentence patterns, particles, verbs and kanji. The students' language skills are improving week by week, it is so exciting to see their languge skills improving!

Year 10 Japanese - Before students began working from home, Yr 10 Japanese students were preparing to hold a mini festival for a Yr 8 class. They had prepared activities and instructions for a variety of activities and almost had their festival dance, the “Chuunan Soran”, ready to perform. We look forward to holding the festival when school returns to campus.

Year 12 Japanese students have just completed their first assessment of the year which involved them interpreting a conversation from Japanese to English. This proved a challenging activity, showing students how calm you would need to be if interpreting as a career. Needless to say, most students decided against pursuing that as a career option!
