Year 7 Visual Arts students have been developing skills not only in practical activities but also learning new vocabulary and the elements of art and principles of design. Students have a new range of skills applying different mediums in their compositions. Students will also implement their learning and language in making a Youtube style video discussing either Cubism or Impressionism.

Year 8 Visual Arts classes have been investigating the art making practice of John Olsen. Olsen has had a lifelong love of frogs, he studied not only their environment, but he also had an interest in capturing the movement and actions of frogs in their natural habitat. After researching Olsen students created their own frog artworks creating a series of paintings exploring a range of mediums such as acrylic on canvas and ink on Yupo paper.

Year 9 Visual Arts and Photography students have worked towards developing their own Vanitas. A Vanita is a centuries old style of artmaking which documents the cycle of life and symbolically recognises the material possessions in our lives. Students are exploring this style of artmaking in both the traditions of painting and also in Digital Media. Students have also explored a range of artists who create Vanitas, but in a contemporary way. It has been interesting to see the transformation of students' original compositions.

The Artist - Year 9 students who are undertaking the Visual Arts interest elective have been exploring techniques used by various artists. They investigate ways to create artworks through the experimentation of different materials and mediums. They have been reflecting on and refining their own artmaking by using their own ideas and beliefs to create meaning through artmaking. 

 

Year 10 Visual Arts are exploring the world of portraits and what it means to create a portrait of a person or even an animal. The class has developed a range of artworks using diverse materials such as clay, inks, mixed media, charcoal, painting and digital media and students are learning techniques from each other as they progress. Students have also investigated artists and linked the artists to their own artmaking activities.

Year 11 Visual Arts have embarked on the Stage 6 journey starting with exploring Contemporary Australian art. They have made connections to their own lives and things that influence them and created a series of artworks which depicts their concept. Students have engaged in developing skills in a range of media and peer discuss their ideas and techniques. Students have also investigated a range of artists and are developing skills in writing extended responses.
