Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and The Lakes South Morang College, is excited to be participating. The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:
- access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
- a modern user-friendly interface
- rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
- the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review
The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 2 September 2022.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers and a list of challenge books.

La Trobe Uni Visit
On Monday the 2nd of May the Year 12 VCE cohort hosted Jerome from La Trobe University. He came to speak to the group about the Aspire Early Entry program on offer at La Trobe. In 2021 86% of applicants received an offer from their Aspire applications. The Aspire program takes into consideration community involvement including things such as leadership, volunteering, going above and beyond with family support and participation in social justice groups. All students are encouraged to apply for this program as it is free and easy to apply. Once students submit their application they are given free access to ATAR notes which can assist with exam preparation. They are also automatically considered for one of the 40 scholarships through the Aspire program and if successful, given an Aspire early conditional offer. If you have questions about this please speak with Alyce (Careers Coordinator) or directly with La Trobe University. They have webinars with further details occurring throughout the year and also have their open day on August 7th, which students are encouraged to attend. Applications for the Aspire program are now open and close on the 16th of September.
