INTERSCHOOL CHESS TOURNAMENT

On Tuesday, eleven BSC students and two teachers attended the Chess Victoria Secondary Open inter-school zonal tournament at Brighton Grammar.

There were 166 competitors from approximately 15 schools. It was an absolutely wonderful event to attend.

The chess players were so impressive. At the beginning of each round (there were seven) there was complete silence in the hall; the intensity was palpable.

I felt like I could hear the players’ minds tick. Our school performed well, with many of our students achieving success in the seven games they played.

Jennifer of Yr 9, received a trophy for being the third best performing girl on the day. Win or lose, I was so proud of our students and the way they performed and behaved.

Congratulations to the following students who took part:

AJ (Yr 7), Jayden (Yr 7), Andrey (Yr 7), William (Yr 7), Ethan (Yr 7), Jennifer (Yr 8), Jaxon (Yr 8), Oliver (Yr 9), Jennifer (Yr 9), Gavi  (Yr 10), Linh (Yr 12).

Thanks also to Ms. Merkel for accompanying us on the day.
