YEAR 9 BENTLEIGH WEST PRIMARY SCHOOL VISIT

On Tuesday the 5th of April the Year 9 Elective Young Endeavours Studies went to Bentleigh West Primary school to run a pre-transition program for the Grade 6 students that attend there. The pre-transition program is to help arm Primary aged students who will be transitioning to Year 7 in 2023 with the knowledge and basic skills to help them have a smooth transition from Primary school into Secondary school. The ultimate goal of this program was to also help build stronger school communities by supporting schools in our local area.

The program was developed by the Year 9 Young Endeavours students after reflection on their own transition experience. They also surveyed the current Brighton Secondary Year 7 students to help develop and idea about what the program should include. Some of the common themes found where: Reading timetables, ICT issues, Navigating the school and Workload/stress management.

6 groups were formed and the Year 9s developed and rehearsed their activities for the best part of term 1.

The day was a great success and ran smoothly, with very little issues. The Year 9 Young Endeavours students performed remarkably in presenting their activities, dealing with a group, of sometimes, rowdy Grade 6 students and delivering a clear and concise message that will hopefully support the Grade 6 students of Bentleigh West Primary to have a smoother and more successful transition to Year 7, no matter which Secondary school they attend.
